Street Prepared build

I bought some Delrin stock off of Ebay this morning. I should have enough left over after I make my bushings to make another set if anyone else wants some.

I might. I have a nice noise coming from my front suspension, figured it was just junk in the coilover spring perches again but I'm not so sure now.

I took my control arms off today to see what the problem was with the bushings. Everything looked fine at first, then I noticed that the metal sleeve through the center of the bushing had been deformed. The hole the bolt runs though had actually gotten slightly bigger. All the bushing material was intact, but it would have had to give a little to allow the sleeve to expand. My Delrin should be here in the next few days. I'm not sure at this point if I need to make the sleeve stronger. I'm hoping the Delrin will not allow it to deform as much. I'll just have to experiment a little with it.

A plastic the strength of metal and can handle high heat.

Justin, did you ever pick up any sponsors?

I don't really have any "sponsors", but I'll rep for ProtegeGarage any time. Ken has been a great help to me. My local Mazda dealership treats me like I actually work there so I owe them a lot too. I don't really ask for much from suppliers and tuning shops. Maybe I should. I still feel like I have a lot to prove before people would take me seriously.

WHeel mounted on the front of the car. No spacer. Everything clears the rim. Tire will be very close if not hitting on the strut and possibly the brake line bracket and ABS wire bracket at full lock.

Here is the rear of the car. I had to keep my 3mm spacer on the rear for the wheel to clear the rear lateral link mounting bolt as seen in the 3rd pic.

Best I can tell right now I will need somewhere between a 5-10mm spacer minimum front and rear for the tires to clear everything. I'll have more data on that in a few days. I'm working on something else right now. i was having a bad stumbling idle problem and I located the cause today. We originally thought it was a bad manifold gasket so I replaced that yesterday, but the problem actually got worse. I went to work a little peeved about it and decided to install another gasket today. As I was putting on the new gasket I noticed some very interesting lines in the intake throats. upon close inspection it appears as though I have almost cracked the manifold runners off the mounting flange. I guess I should install that rear manifold brace back under the manifold when I put the spare one on the car. I left it off when i was swapping heads and manifolds a lot since it was a pain in the ass to crawl under the car and remove it every time.

That rim looks interesting on the car. I can't wait to see pictures of the tire fitting on there.

Looking good man! I am hoping to get started on my build in a few weeks. I'm hoping to have the AWR suspension on the car, a LSD, lightweight flywheel, new clutch, and 225-50-14 Kumho V710's by mid to late february. I'm really hoping to get the car done in time for the Valdosta, GA Tour on the 24th of february.
Are you planning to go to Valdosta?

I don't think I'll make it down to Valdosta. I'm in extreme money saving mode waiting for the new Hoosiers to come out in March. I'm pretty sure I have to work that weekend anyway. I'll make it down to at least one of the Atlanta area events this year. I'm making a huge effort to make the mirrorkhana since I missed it last year. When I went 2 years ago I was so broke that I only had enough money to run the mirrorkhana and not the AutoX the next day. Luckily I won my entry fee back so I could enter the Sunday event. Not much has changed...I' still broke.

It's 4am and I'm bored as hell. Here is a picture of my uncracked manifold hot off the porting table. I'm looking forward to the old girl running 100% again.

Perhaps Individual throttle bodies in the future?

I am going through this now with a hybridized sheet metal intake manifold for the DSP car. It will be lighter and less complex than the stock item. It is a very expensive bit of weight savings though as mine will require full engine management. Ah well, I never planned on being rich anyway.

Perhaps I missed this somewhere, but will you be making it to the Dixie NT?
