Strange Miss...?

So I was driving the 3 the other day, put the foot down when I was in 5th going about 45mph, it started spooling and I heard a subtle, very quick pop and looked in the rear view and saw a little black smoke behind me. It quickly got right back under boost and it was fine, I then let off in a worried state. I put it in neutral and redlined it for a second to clear it up. I then downshifted and it was back to the norm, an awesome little car... I wonder why it had a miss like this, I really wonder what it could have been. No CEL or anything.

hmm idk but i had something similar happen to me last week...then i stopped and parked the car and befor i shut it off i noticed it was smoking grey smoke and it kept doin it...no CEL or anything i turned it off went into the store and when i came back out it was fine so idk...

Well it has only happened once. The only thing that worries me know is that I feel an almost surging sensation in 4th, 5th, and 6th gear now. Like if I am going 45mph in 5th and just get on it it builds boost then tapers down and comes back and goes, it is really worrying me, no CEL just like power surging in the upper gears at full boost. It never did this until the other day...

That surging seems to be a common issue with some people who have CAIs. If it continues you should take the car in. One member over on the 'other' forum took his in and was told there was a leak (air) somewhere in the system. So it might be a good idea to check over your cai/hoses/maf to make sure everything is nice and tight.

thats a boost spike caused by to much strain on the motor...you need to downshift befor you get on it hard in those taller gears at high speeds! nothing to worry about if you stop doin it
