I'll give this a try, in case it happens to me.At my request, the dealer was kind enough to investigate whether you can open the door of a CX-5 with the physical key if the car battery is empty or not connected and made the video below.

The car battery has been disconnected and as you can see you can unlock the door with the physical key. There is a mechanical connection between the key lock and the door lock. So no electrical power is needed.
