Stock Sound System

You need a Line Out Converter (LOC) which you connect to the speaker outputs of the stock head unit:
www.davidnavone.com has good LOCs at a great price.

Thanks for your link to that site.

I see that there are quite a few choices for different LOCs that you can choose from. I am trying to install my subwoofer and amplifier with the least amount of change to my Mazda3. I don't want to cut any wires and split them if I don't have to. That davidnavone site doesn't say much about the actual install process on any of their LOCs.

Could you tell me first of all which of the LOCs that he has on his site would be the best one for the setup, and if there are any LOCs that they sell which I won't have to splice my wires on my new car?
Sorry if I seem dumb about this, but I don't really want to be messing with electrical on my brand new car, and I would rather not cut wires off the factory harness.

Thanks for any help guys.

Sorryman, just about anyway you go about it, you'll be cutting into your stock wiring, or atleast splicing into it. The way most ppl avoide the cutting and splicing is through the use of 2 new harnesses that you essentially use to just make an "extention" of the stock one that you can indeed splice into without issue. THis however is A. kindof spendy and B. not really possible with 3's yet as their stock stereo setup has yet to be hacked as far as I know.

If all you want to do is add a subwoofer, then one of his 2 channel models will work. If you have the sedan you can tap into the rear speaker wires right at the speakers. Otherwise the easiest thing to do is pull the radio and install the LOC behind the dash and run RCAs to the back.

Here is a photo of how I did this without cutting any wires. There was no loss in audible SQ between using these wire 'splicers' and actually soldering connections...
