stock rev limit

what is the stock rev limiter set to? I just revved up to 7000 according to my tachometer, with no sign of a rev limit. I was just curious if someone actually hit it (I don't feel like going out to check mine...).

The car sure could use much more power between 4500 and 6500 RPM....

You must have been real close... within a 100 rpm or so.

From what I remember the stock limit varies between gears...Some loads, such as in first, the limit is much higher, and the others fall in around 6750....Forget what the stock tach is telling you in first though, it will display about 300 or so rpm more than what you are realistically at when the engine speed is that high...Thats the case with almost every stock tach however...

Seems like the limit should be lower in gears with higher ratios... Oh well. I had a feeling that I should expect some error in reading the tach. BTW, I was in first gear when I got that high.

People with aftermarket tachs or laptops hooked up to the OBD-II port have said the rev limiter is 6750. I've hit the rev limiter a few times, it shows up at around 7200-7300 on the stock tach.
