Stereo not working... ugh...

Ok... So I was finally gonna put an aftermarket stereo in my P5 and I went out and bought all the speakers and head unit.

I got the how-to on these forums on getting the doors apart(which was awesome, btw), and started from the back to the front. I got the back speakers in and the doors back on, tested it, and it worked great.

Then I did the front door speakers and everything went well, but once I tried to test it, the still-original deck wouldn't turn on at all. No lights or anything. And strangly enough, my door-lock remote doesn't work either. Everything else on the car works fine, so I checked all the fuses and they all looked good, though I don't have a fuse tester.

The only screw up I can think of is when I cut the wires to remove the speaker clip(I soldered the new ones on) on the driver's door, I had forgotten to disconnect the battery. So perhaps I shorted the deck out doing that, but I have no idea if that's even possible like that, and it wouldn't really explain why my door-lock remote doesn't work either...

The obvious next step for me is to just replace the deck with the new one I have, but I don't have the removal tools and nothing is open today on account of May 2-4 weekend. Since that still wouldn't solve the remote problem anyway, I thought I'd come on here and see if anyone had any other ideas on what the problem could be.

Thanks for the help...

Also, the new speakers are 60 and 45 Watts as opposed to the stock 25W speakers, so maybe that's the reason?

Mods, this belongs in the audio section.

You won't short-out the factory radio by clipping the speaker leads with the battery connected. Something else is going on here. Are you sure you checked all fuses, ones in the driver's side kickpanel and ones under the hood?

Do all the window/lock switches on the doors work properly? Just checking to make sure you connected all the harnesses before you put the door panel back on. Do any of the interior lights work? Test all electronics and you might be able to narrow it down to a specific fuse.
