So yeah, my friend was playing with my stereo (stock kenwood), and all of a sudden it closed back up and won't come back out. Now, before when this happened i just used my remote and held down the src button, but now i believe my remote is broken :\ So any recommendations besides disconnecting the battery

Press the white reset button on the front of the headunit. Should clear up all the problems....well, hopefully.

Take the time to read the manual, its not BAD, you might actually learn something useful....like this :)

Same thing happened to me, the stereo just closed up and wouldnt open back up but if you push in the top left corner of the faceplate (when its closed) it will come back down. Take the faceplate off and look at the back there is a reset type button on the back of the faceplate.

Like he said, press and hold down the top left corner of the CLOSED faceplate for a second, it will flip back over. Did this on accident the 2nd day I had the car, actually my friend was messing with the remote and did this. Thought I had a busted radio in my new car, but I just started pressing on things and it opened back up. Read the manual. :)

lol. I wonder if there is an MSP owner that didn't have to learn this lesson. Same thing happened to me. Friend was messing with the stereo 2nd day I owned the car and it powered off and flipped back in. He was flipping through the manual like hell and felt so bad. Then I looked at the head unit and saw a big ol finger print on the top left corner. I thought, hmmmm. Pushed it and sure enough it worked. Good thing the sales man must of not washed his hands. Ewww.

Oh trust me, I would have read the manual. However, my dealer only gave me a cheat sheat, and a french/spansish copy of the manual. Not to mention I don't have the MSP version of the protege owners manual. Just the protege...

I figured it out without a manual or fingerprint.. but I will admit, it's not obvious.. :)

not exactly, i have the same problem, mine is flipped back and i pushed the top left corner and nothing. it would not re-open. when the car is on all u can hear is the motor from the deck running. i haven't tried to disconnect the battery yet. i'm not sure if that will help. I've been told by one of the guys here though that it should. if not, i'ma take it to my dealer.

You can try disconnecting the battery or just removing the fuse at the positive side of the battery. It's in a small weatherproof black box.

So they sending you a copy of a new manual? Try kenwoods website, im sure you can find a manual in pdf form somewhere around the web.

Also, there is no special MSP owners manual, its the same for both.

This has happened to me 4 times... and 2 different head units...(jerkit)

Last time the remote wouldnt even turn it on... .so as tease said.....unhook the battery for a few and then it will flip back over when you hook it back up..... plus if you let it sit for 5 minutes or so it will reset your "learned driving".. It will be more responsive like it was off the lot..

mine does that when i press the close button

all you have to do is press on the unit like if you are opening one of those click cabinets, except it doesn't click. I did that to mine and it opens fine.
