2016 CX5 GT FWD
Newbie picking up FWD GT CX5 (red, of course, the fastest color) tomorrow. Will be using a tow dolly behind my motorhome. The plate the front tires rests on pivots so the steering wheel must be secured.
Has anyone done this and, if so, any special technique? I figure one of those rubber tarp tiedown straps could be used wrapping through the bottom of the wheel with both ends hooked at the bottom front of the seat. Any other suggestions would be welcomed.
Thanks.

Does the car need to be put in Parking if on a front wheel dolly?
If it's safe for the car, you can leave it in parking, and LOCK the steering wheel, (turn the wheel till it locks).

The CX-5 has electrically assisted power steering. I wonder if the steering wheel needs to be mechanically secured (and if it does it may have different requirements than other vehicles).

You should check with Mazda to see what the dolly towing requirements are.

This is what they mention in CX-5 owners manual:

We recommend that towing be done only
by an Authorized Mazda Dealer or a
commercial tow-truck service.
Proper lifting and towing are necessary to
prevent damage to the vehicle.
Particularly when towing a AWD vehicle,
where all the wheels are connected to the
drive train, proper transporting of the
vehicle is absolutely essential to avoid
damaging the drive system. Government
and local laws must be followed.
Wheel dollies
A towed 2WD vehicle should have its
drive wheels (front wheels) off the
ground. If excessive damage or other
conditions prevent this, use wheel dollies.
When towing a 2WD vehicle with the rear
wheels on the ground, release the parking
brake.
A towed AWD vehicle must have all its
wheels off the ground.
