Steamed!!

ok...lemme clear this up. I was going 130-135 at around 6k. That's still more room to play with...then, the governer kicked in. Let me reiterate...I could have gone faster...hence, there is a limiter at work.

the only limiter there is, is drag limiter and a 7200-7300 rpm cut.

i know this for a fact on mp5's i would guess the same on a MSP or MP3. i know stock mp5s can get to 130 NA no mods. why they would put a limiter on a MSP dunno.

I'm not sure why they put it there, but it's there. It physically pulls you back. It's not like a drag limit where it holds youat whatever speed you're going (forward force=drag), it's a yank you back like hitting the rev limiter type of feeling. The stats on car-videos.com (although fairly off for some things) do list a limited top speed and a theoretical top speed.

well thanks anyways guys.
what kind of stand alone are you running and how many bones did you have to throw out to get it?

THere is no speed limiter on any protege. The Protege nor the MSP has enough power to overcome the drag at those speeds to even get close to one anyway. You will most likely not ever hit the rpm limiter while in 5th gear unless you have a clear 8 mile strip(like the salt flats). The drag is way too high to easily reach that speed.

I think this guy's high. (stupid)

i dunno i would have to agree. ive been up to 135+ in my p5 on some pretty flat roads (i live in oklahoma after all, where the speed limit is 75 and the roads are almost completely all the way to texas), and didnt come close to hitting rev limit. i think the people that say there is one are mistaking drag for speed limiter. if a car has a speed limit in the us, its almost NEVER NEVER NEVER above 110-115. why would they make a speed limit at 140-150? how much sense does that make?

At this point, the "*** Black" moron is just disagreeing with me to try to make me angry. There is no point in even trying to argue with an idiot that has the maturity level of a retarded 8 year old.

But no, the Protege doesn't have a speed limiter, it has an rpm limiter much like 99% of other modern cars.

assuming you had NO drag wouldnt you have to be going like 150 or more to hit the rpm limit?

ok i'm dreaming then!
but i've been there, i went to 135 and it violently cut back to 130.
and i know it was a speed limiter

Who am I to say it didn't, I wasn't there in your car. But I can tell you that the Protege doesn't have a speed limiter, just a fuel cut rpm limiter.

Speedy, you don't happen to have an Auto P5 do you... I can't find where you posted what you own

More than likely it was the stock knock controler that was pulling out timing. At that high rpm for that period of time, the intake temps are going to be VERY high. If the motor started to get into some pinging, the ecu would have pulled out a little timing. And at that speed, a little timing retard can have a dramatic effect. This is most likely what it was.

93 octane and i was only on it hard no more than a min and 1/2 from a 80 roll
A minute at 5000 to 6000rpm is a long time. When you are driving, it doesn't seem like that big of a deal. But sit in your car while it is sitting still and hold the rpm to 5500 for just 10 seconds. You will get a queezy stomach from the fear of what might happen.:D

The MSPs do have a speed cut controller. I hit mine at 130mph once when I was racing an RXS Type-S. Anyway, this can be overcome by installing a boost & speed cut controller. Greddy sells them - as do other manufacturers.
