SSAFC or UNICHIP

okay so i have had a unichip for about 8 months and am really not happy, although it is untuned! would i be happier and see more benefit from swapping it out for a ssafc. have read a lot on here about them and seem that just about everyone is satisfied with its out of the box performance. would it be worth selling the unichip and getting the ssafc or get the unichip tuned. would they have about the same performance capabilities or would i still have better success with the ssafc. any feedback would be appreciated!

I am saving for an SSFTC and have heard nothing but praise from properly installed SSAFC/SSFTCs. Why pay to tune a Unichip setup and retune it for each mod when you can tune the AFC by yourself?

get the unichip tuned. its not worth anything used, and is better than the FTC anyways (let alone the AFC). you seem like youre at a point where youre not adding a ton of mods to the car anyways, so its a good investment for you at this point in the game. by the time you sell the unichip (+150) get an FTC (-400 used -750? new) and a wideband (-200 ish), you could have paid to have the unichip tuned twice. and its still a better unit. but do your 440's first.

i was thinking of that being my last performance mod, the dueschwerx set was reasonable price wise but anyone know of better! am waiting on income tax to solve my engine management problem, prop just end up taking my car to orlando and have TiTaN tune it for me! quoted me $600 including dyno time!

would spark plugs play a major factor in which ems i go with, i currently am running the NGK 1 step colder plugs but they came with a 1.1 gap. I have regapped them to .7 but have heard that such a drastic drop in gap size could make the plugs foul out or have massive issues?

I would say get the Unichip tuned and forget about it. Plugs are supposed to be gapped to .028-.032

while its not likely to screw your tune too bad, having a spare set of plugs to install at the convenience of the tuner is a good idea. you dont want to have to spend $600 to tune it again because you had a $12 set of bad plugs.

and i dont know about the reputation of your local shop, but $600 is toward the upper end of dyno tune prices -- even for unichip. i would keep looking, but thats just me.

I have already done my research on the tuner shops that are in my area. Orlando is about 45 minutes away from were I live, so I have already contacted CeNtRaL FlOrIdA TuRbO and TiTaN MoToRsPoRtS and they were both the same price for dyno time and custom map, so i chose TiTaN. prob the best choice!

In the end it all going to be about the same price to tune the unichip. But it's a good investment.

it will be, for sure. just be sure to put 440's in, bring spare spark plugs, maybe even a spare set of coils just in case (also cheap). change the oil, maybe seafoam it a couple weeks before... basically, get it in exactly the shape you want it to be tuned for. of course, any lingering mods you havent done, DO THEM!

oh, and set up your boost control ahead of time. youre using the unichip boost control and greddy solenoid? what psi?

Holy s***, Bryan. You're still on here fighting the good-fight ? Call me, playa.

Forget EMS. MBC, 18 psi, use old plugs, 87 Oct, and flat-foot that ******. Ok, I'll leave now.

8psi from wastegate (ATP) and unichip selector for boost is still set from unichip and I havent tried to use it cause i have heard horror stories of these being set for like 18psi, so i will wiat to have that calibrated but am desiring to run 10-12 psi with that switch!.

haha, always the prankster. and yes, for some reason im still here. if i had to guess -- its nice to get at least some respect, even if its from people i dont really know. dont tell my gf that, and dont tell her im still bumming around here.
and ive had no excuse to go to troy lately. though with the amount of snow were getting in CT, it cannot possibly be worse up there. just colder.

I'm from CT too. The NE corner. The snow was crazy this winter. Now we got tons of rain on radar. Got to love New England.
