SRT-4 video

a stock 96 sohc neon is faster than a p5
yeah its just a neon
and mopar makes s*** for parts
the neon shares the block with the DSM family 420A
only difference is that its mounted backwards from the eclipse
HANN racecraft turbo's has a 9second daily driver neon
the neon also comes in the ACR model (american club racer), basically adds Koni adjustibles and a few little extras, but it comes as a base model would, bad radio, no sound deading material.

a neon may be ugly, but it can become the car that says anything but "Hi"

Sad to say, but the SRT-4 can keep up with the WRX in the 1/4 mile. The video was actually pretty accurate with the launch and once the WRX hits the top of 3rd, the SRT will start to catch up if it hasn't already and will pull away if they are running even. The stock turbo on the WRX runs out of steam pretty quick at high rpms and that's pretty much a well known fact. I've had the opportunity to test drive the SRT and I was able to get on the throttle quite a few times, I must say that it does have a pretty good midrange and top end. My roomate who owns a WRX also drove it and he agrees that it has a better top end than his WRX, which is stock with the exception of his HKS Carbon TI exhuast. So based off of my experience of driving both the WRX and the SRT back to back, the SRT had better pull on the top end.

I took a SRT-4 the other night. It was stock and I know the guy. He took me off the line but then in second and third, I flew by him like nothing. SRT-4 KILLER.

i drove an srt4 i have to say its quick , fast whatever but i would rather lose to one than buy one. IMO its a horribly cheap looking car. for those who havent driven it yet or sat in it then you have to to see why

I thought it was fine. Looks every bit as well put together as the Protege.
I didn't see anything that struck me as cheap considering both cars are just econoboxes. Your not going to see major quality in either not to mention with all the rattles the Protege has I can't image the Neon being any worse.

You seem to have a love afair with the Neon and are somewhat overly pessimistic about Proteges.
Every car mag from rag to decent read has rated the Protege with a better overall quality than the Neon. Wether it be fit and finish or the interior. There are those who do not like the MSP 's seats but as far as general quality of build the MSP wins.
You also seem to avoid any reference where a stock MSP comes in under 15 sec in the 1320.
You're a secret Turd coveter arent you.
You lay in bed awake at night staring at the oversized posters of little Ricky Simmons riding around in Neons attached to your ceiling. Yearning for the day you finally complete you forbidden embrace wit jur Neon lover. Run to him 1STY run to Ricky he and his skittles await you.

See you both touched upon a point in evaluating a cars overall "worthiness".
Quality both ride and fit is not something easily definable over a mass of buyers.
There are fit problems in the Protg lineup, just as there are in the Neons.
To each his own to decide how "Crappy" a quality is.

In addition regardless of those few MSP that do run under 15s the Neons are running in the 13s. Some drivers can get a car faster than what other owners do. I've seen C5s run 15's, Saturns run 15s, and so on and so on. All stock.

Funny how whenever the SRT is mention most MSP start getting all defensive.
Get over yourselves, there will be faster cars, there will be ones that handle better, there will be a future in car development.

If you do not like the Neon then fine, enjoy the Protg lineup for what it offers to the market.
But least get off your clunky, plastic insipred piping soapboxes and realize there are other cars out there.

If only Mazda would actually have the guts to produce and fully back our cars...if only..

I agree completely. Wouldn't take much to up our HP to 200, and be able to at least keep up. Make some MAzdaspeed internals, boost controller, exaust...done.

But they'll never do it. Too risky. Mazda doesn't have the balls.

Something else MAzda isn't doing....Advertising. The SRT4 is everywhere I look now, Mags, TV commercials, now onine Video's

And, the damn thing was on time...something ELSE MAzda didn't do right.

Mazda HAS to...let me repeat that for any Mazda people Reading.

MAZDA HAS TO GET THE MAZDASPEED ON THE ROAD NOW!

Or their ******.

Broken promises, "the car will be out in late Oct" That was funny, along with the other so called dates, and nobody knowing when it was ever arriving. People are still waiting. Obsurd.

Now the 2003.5 are going to be late from the "April" release date

Mazda f'd up again.

what's the sense of bringing over the Mazdaspeed franchise if noone gets to own one except a few lucky sob's that live in the right place at the right time.

They don't seem to even care about making us wait....it's not a Ferrari, it's a Protege! Why do I have to wait 1 year to get one??? WTF?

My advice to MAzda. Put the cars on the Road NOW. regardless of what they have to do. Other cars are hitting the streets that have more HP, more advertising, more hype, and once the cars hit the roads, the Speeds are going to stay on the lots.

Mazda ****** up again.

On another note: Please tell me that the BOV in that Neon isn't that obvious. That's f'n cool.

..........before you hate me, remember I do have a Titanium ordered.

Can someone post a couple clips of the video where you see the girls stomach and legs. So when this thread continues and you go off on this debate further I can just post a pic of this hottie to bring this thread back to reallity.

I second that...Chrysler has an advantage since they have been building turbo cars for a long time now. Almost everything they built in the 80's and early 90's was available with a turbo...even the Dodge Caravan and the Omni. Granted the fit and finish of the body parts may leave much to be desired, but Mazda really needs to step up to the plate if they want to compete.

that was the cheapest looking home video video i've seen. you'd think dodge would spend some money on production value. it looks like two guys made it using a camcorder. i'm not trying to be nitpicky or anything (actually, yes i am) but dodge has got to have more than $200 to make a video promoting "the fastest car nder $20000" what a waste.

it's not a waste....you watched it didn't you???

Others are watching aren't they?

It made it to a Mazda web site didn't it?

I'd say their home made movie has already paid 4 itself.

I agree, dodge did there job with promoting it, I talk to lots of people asking why I didn't wait for the srt-4 because of all of the advertising, most people don't even know what the hell my car is. I've had 2 people say nice mazdaspeed how do you like it the rest are like, how much did you put into that protege to make it go and look like that. I hate dodge but they know what they are doing. I actually liked the video other than the promoting of street racing but meh what are you goin to do.

basically, and this is no secret, the big 3 are only good at one thing. Advertising. They spend the most to advertise the most. They make a mediocre product that's cheap, and try to brain wash the average joe with as many commercials, magazine ads, you name it, they do it, and that's the only reason why the sell so many cars.

actually there is one more reason why the sell so many.

Companies, goverment agencies, police, Fire Dept, Rescue teams, construction crews all get better deals on domestics, and think it's better to keep the money within the country rather then giving it to imports outside North America.

How many Honda Accords or Toyota Camry police cars do you see?

The Subaru looked like an old 2.5 rs coupe. The video was cool...but does promote street racing. Not that I am against it...just that a car manufactuer should not. Although they got a way with it the 60's and 70's a lot. I guess it isnt any differnet then today.

guys
(as i have said many times over) mazda is notin the market to make bad cars. they have and always will make reliable cars.
they have made a car that is superior stucturaly in comparison to alot of the "econoboxes " out there.
they got a late start in this turbo craze because FORD would not allow it. remember they have complete control when it comes to production decisions. by the way the new engines that the MAZDA engineers( along with ford for the most part ) have developed are the best on the market right know and they will get even better. just for anyone who is confused i am talking about the new generation thats in the mazda6 and the protege for 2004. the 2.3 has a head that with minor mods can FLOW 1100 HP!!!!!!!!give them a chance. theres only so much you can do when your hands are tied!!

I have sat in both and owned a Protege for 2 years. i am well familiar with all of its short comings as far a construction go. I can strip the interior of this car in several minutes, its shamefully put together, The rear deck is about the least secure thing I have ever seen.

The difference is I will not s*** on the Neon for no reason like many MSp owners will. To say its just a neon is a completely retarded statement from some one who drives just a protege. You can strap on a POS tiny turbo and do almost no tuning but its still isn't a sports car, sorry.
The neon is a very respectable car. They have deen proving themselves in auto cross for years and in much greater quantities then the protege. The SRT/4 reliabilty is largly unknown as it has not been out for very long. However from watching both boards it seems the MSP has as many issues as the neon does.

I am not avioding your stat, I am trying to find it! Until I see it I will not comment. If it is true cool good to knwo I stand correct, no problem.

The idea that the SRT/4 is subpar is laughable. It will match if not beat the MSP in every test.

I will personlay never own another Mazda as they are a completely terrible company when it comes to customer service. I will also never own an economy car no matter how nicely it is polished. I don't care, I know what it is.

I don't favor the Neon or MSP I just don't blindly hate the car for the simple reason every stat shows its superior to my own. I don't care I have grown out of it and am only making others stay to the truth no BS.

Say and think whatever you want about others cars. I would just advise to be more reserved for making fun of a car for being cheap when you drive one in the same class that has been chumped by the other on EVERY occasion.

Oh, did I forget to mention the MP3 won EVERY comparision it was in. The MSP won NOTHING!

I guess having the original is better :p

only gonna say one thing
magazine junkies, i do hope you realize you shouldn't believe everything your read or are told.
