SRI and heat issue.

I would have to go ahead and say I disagree with that kind of gain.
i dunno about that kind of gain but there is for sure a gain... i did this today when i got my car back from the shop..sounds alot louder and the filter isnt sucking up hot air anymore..no more heat soak :D aemHeat.webp

its pretty close to the motor...u do have a header... wrap it up with heatwrap.. my tube gets a lil warm now,but no where near as hot as it use to get
I guess the point I was trying to make was that the little spot where the other guy's intake was touching the radiator hose probably isn't heating up the intake air anymore than the rest of the things under the hood do even if it wasn't touching the radiator hose at all.

forget the wrap. get a pair of radiator hose cutters (can be had at any auto parts store or most hardware stores) and take about a half inch off the rad side of your upper hose-- slightly more may be needed. That will bring the bend away from your intake pipe. Just may sure not to trim it too much or else you'll get a kink in the upper hose.

also rotate the intake pipe slightly at the point where it couples to the MAF. rotating it counterclockwise a tad will move the pipe away from the trimmed rad hose.

well if you want to start wrapping or installing heat shields that's fine... but trimming the rad hose and rotating the intake pipe is a much cleaner and as-- if not more effective solution than simply wrapping.

Oh & btw, the intake got just as hot with the oem exhaust setup.
thats odd usally a header heats up the whole engine bay pretty quick.. iwas statein to wrap the header not the intake...

A full functioning CAI Vs. a stock airbox.... The human body cannot even decipher the difference between the two. This is physics. A CAI will not net enough power increase to register on the 'but dyno'. ESPECIALLY on an NA car.

sound = power =/= false

I would do this myself if I had this setup, there's no doubt about that. I'm just saying there's not going to be a gain worth writting home about.

I have not seen anyone talk about this here, so.... I have the AEM SRI in my P5. It's placement touches the top radiator hose, but just barely. I notice that after a good engine warmup that the intake tube becomes very warm from the radiator hose. My guess is that this may warm up the air inside the intake, thus almost defeating it's purpose. Anyone have ideas?

1. I thought about wrapping the radiator hose, but will that cause harm to the hose over time and failure.
2. Some kind of heat shield, but there is no room.
3. Wrap the intake tube, but it will not look good.

what kind of polishing did you do to your valve cover ? it looks great !

where do you attach the coolant tank after you unscrew those 2 screws that are holding it down? does anybody have a picture of where the colant tank goes, because i was thinking of doing this mod as well.....

I bought one of those insulated, reflective sun shades at Wal-Mart for $6, cut it up, and ty-wrapped it to my ebay intake piping. I did this last night so I don't really have any results from it yet- plus it'll be awhile before we have air temps above 90. I did the same thing on my Saturn SC awhile ago. That car is my autox/track toy and sees alot of abuse. I think it's helped the heat soak issue. If not, it didn't cost much. And I don't think it looks all that bad.

thanks protegedaryl, that was really helpful and i was able to do the samething you did. now that i have but the intake this way, i really can feel the difference in my car now, and i was able to see the peformance gain electronically. i have this g force meter made by beltronics and it tell you peformance that your car puts out like 1/4 mile times, g forces and horsepower. usually at max i hit about .28 g's on the first gear. but now with the intake setup, i am able to go into the mid .30's, and your able to really feel the difference when it does. thanks for everybodys help on this fourm, ill do the quatermile tomorow and tell you what kind of peformance gain i got out of that!

sweet, let us know... i really like that u can hear the hissing more seems louder when u floor it as well

for anyone else with this problem...90 degree bend and an extra coupler.
