** Spring Buyer's Guide **

So now that I narrowed my choices down to 3, here is the next question:

Eibach Sportline, Pro-kit, or the Espelir? Which one? they are all stiffer then stock and have a decent drop, I just cant choose.

Pro kit looks good and feels smooth but are a little loose after they set in. Still tighter than stock for sure. Handles great. If I had to do it over I would have gotten the tein-s. But the prokit is a good compromise between perf and comfort.

Tain H-Tech

Recently purchased Tokico HPs & Tein H-Tech Springs. Hoping to install this weekend. If anyone cares, I e-mailed Tein and they said the H-tech drop for the Protege sedan was more like 1.4 front/1.1 rear. It makes sense to me because the Sedan and P5 use the same exact springs. So the listed drops should be more similar, like the S-Techs.

Btw, Tein marks the springs as "F" (front) & "R" (rear). I didn't see any other markings for driver side or passenger side...so I'm assuming that it doesn't matter. Can anyone verify this?

EDIT: Also does anyone have the torque specs handy?

Left/right doesn't matter.

Do you mean that Tein lists the same springs for both the sedan and the P5? That's correct, but the oem springs are different for those models.

awsmp5 ran H-Techs on his P5, they only dropped the rear about 1/2" after settling. Here's the thread with install pics.

Have you got your suspension installed yet?

Yes, I'll post before/after pics after they settle some. Now I'm just trying to work out the clunk. I detached both rear endlinks from the rear struts this morning and the clunk is gone. Debating on buying OEM replacements or adjustable endlinks.

I'm thiking about ditching my Eibach pro kit for H&R springs, or ideally HKS to pair up with my tokico illimina's I just orderd, my current setup: Eibach Pro kit and Tokico HP blues, just have to go.

I've put up with the extremely bumpy and harsh conditions for some time now so im changning struts, and getting a different set of rims.

hmm this might be a stupid question and probably have been already asked but sifting through i don't know how many pages does not fit into my schedule.....

Anyways question being. How long do springs last? and im not talking about the season....

I have Eibach pro's on my ride for about 4 years now and didn't notice any difference in them yet except for the fact that my front passenger side keeps bottoming out on the slightest bump in the road. I was wondering if this is the spring? I do believe it's most likely to be the strut though. I plan on getting new struts but would like to avoid spending more money on new springs....

This is why i ask what is the usual life span of springs?

Good quality springs, like your eibachs, will last longer than your car. Using stiffer aftermarket springs causes stock struts to wear prematurely.

so your saying that i don't need to get new springs? How can i tell if they are worn if that is the case cuz i my front left tire keeps bottoming out and hitting the fender. Your implying that this is indeed the strut that is causing the car to bottom out? Hmm hard to tell cuz someone was telling me it was the spring and not the strut..... This sucks i might as well just by new eibachs and struts......

Thanks for your input. any more feedback is appreciated

If anyone would like to take over updating the list plz PM me. Some of the info is out of date or incorrect but I simply do not have the time to fix these errors. While the list remains a good guide to people, its best if someone else can deal with the upkeep. There are a few conflicts with theMAN's page but hopefully someone can sort them out.

If you buy new eibachs, i'll take your old ones!!

Someone asked me to get some info over here on spring rates.

So just to recap:

MP3 and MSP OEM Dampers are the CORE PROBLEM in the rear. They have raised the spring perch on those.

That's why you must buy aftermarket Tokicos to get a GOOD DROP on THOSE SEDANS.

The standard Sedans will drop just like the P5.

Spring rates: 180lbs/in front, 160lbs/in rear

REAR IS PROGRESSIVE THOUGH. Front is linear.
