Sport Mode with Engine / Transmission Swap (2016 CX-5)

Technical question here that Mazda can’t seem to answer.

I have a 2016 CX5 GS and just put in a 2015 Transmission and 2017 Engine.

When I use the Sport Mode button it just flashes Sport 3x on the dash. I assume this may be because 2015 models didn’t have Sport?

It isn’t a big deal as I never used it anyway but just wanted to confirm my Sport Mode switch will be dead forever.

In North American market for model years.. sport mode would have arrived with the '16s

Yes, the 2015 auto transmission doesn’t support “Sport Mode”. Although I believe the Sport Mode should be controlled by the TCM software, there may have some incompatibilities between the 2016 software and the 2015 hardware. And I believe your “Sport” switch will be useless unless you have a 2016 transmission.

Ok follow up. Since the button is useless now can it be programmed to do another function?
