Spooling vs Flying???

i like the spoolin kit. like most of the other people that like spoolin kits, i like the use of the manifold and the bigger than hand sized intercooler. i also like this microtech idea that is coming out. but i dont own either :( i would love to be down for this group buy, but i make $100 a week and it is about 9 weeks until june so even then i would only have $900 not counting my $200 a month car payment which i would owe 2 months worth of that totalling $400. so buy then the most i could possibly have would be $500.
makes me cry that im so broke. spoolin', man why don't have a little heart and ship me up a kit? i'll gladly put it on and anything else you wish. even put 17 foot graphics all the way around my car. lol

I don't know what Terry's instructions look like but FP's was seriously "Turbo install for dummies". Every step had a picture of what you are to be doing, as well as detailed instructions. And if you do get stumped they are always more than happy to answer any questions.

On a side note-Kieth please give us more info on this big showy IC, any chance it's got polished pipes???

I don't have any more information at this time. It'll cost more. It may very well be less effective. But you'll be able to see it :)

If you guys want visability just paint the outer section, not the cores, bright ass yellow or something, that was my plan anyways.

I thought you were off racing Keith, you must have really ruled ass to be back already!

Hmm... do mean take a spray can and give it a few coats or powder coat...? Sounds interesting but it's hard to get a good looking visual. Anyone good with photoshop????:)

I was going to have my buddy that custom aints motor cycles and frame polishes do it so what ever he feals is best. I would think the baking in powder coating might harm it.

I don't see paint staying on that thing. But who knows, it will deffinatly look good, hopefully for long, if you could match your car color. But seeing as my car is silver a nice polished one would hit the spot.

I can't recommend powdercoating the core. You could certainly polish the core of the current one, and the end tanks already are powdercoated.

We're leaving for the racetrack on Friday. The race engine is going in the car right....

..now.

As in being installed or in going to its death?
Obviously the core shouldn't be covered otherwise it wint disapate the heat it is supposed to any more. the side on mine ar just the metal, no finish, Another FM addition to the kit I take it?
I was going to do the outer tubes in The MP3 accesory yellow. Should be nice an visable then!

Thanks

I just wanted to say thanks for all the input. I am much closer to a decision thanks to the great comments from everyone.

i would have to pick the SPOOL kit due it's combination (that is the one i have ordered). after working with honda's for a long time it is very close to the potent REV HARD kit that has made the turbo street honda a winner. i am not knocking the other "5" kits! it's just that i like the very agressive kit that spool offers. more room for expansion. great power!

next month I'm going with teh spool stage 2/3, I chose it because of him knowing what appeals to sport compact enthusiasts of today, FM is more just autocrossin and race track fun, Spool's is more for the kids who want the big bad intercooler kit, that is less than sleeper, and yet, it's more powerful, and therefore a track dog as well. Truly, I just want a turbo for the BOV noise, and the toothy grin the FMIC gives your car. Also for the fact that no other mod on my car really gets gains, I'm still slow as civic SI.

FM looks more like a dealership option, spoolin's is more like that kit people get for car shows, and get a bonus side affect of being fast.

:bs: Last I checked Civic Si's ran mid 15's. Your average P5 runs high 16's at best.

I don't see a stock Protege5 running low 16s. Even with a good driver. I ran a 16.4 with an extra person in the car. I was happy with that. I have an AEM intake and some 16x7" rotas with Kumhos. I'm happy with it for now, but eventually it will have to be turbo'd or its going to another home.

I'm still trying to wonder if you got the point I was trying to express or not, cause that is all that really mattered. Also, who said my p5 is stock.

i'm pretty sure a stock p5 will run mid to high 16's. it's got good torque. but the car just falls flat on the high end (makes no power after 5500 rpm). unless you have the cams!! :D :D

Which cams? I dont think those Jspec/Mazdaspeed combo cams will give enough, at least I have not seen 1 (one) dyno prove of their improvement.
And another thing is that I think its not running rich enough at high rpms.
