SPOOL Stage3 dyno stats!!!

what is a El Camino? i am assuming it is an old car? (i hope i am right) am if i am then the NEW emmission laws don't aply to them. When testing for emissions you go back to the year of the car and what the emission laws were then. and they have to pass THOSE standards not the 2003 emission standards. ok. i went to go inspect my dads car today and saw a IS300 FAIL inspection.

so i don't know. it would suck to spend thousands turboing your car to fail for emissions.

and if you fail inspection, next time you go to need to show a invoice for work done on your car to fix the emission problem. well i think so. that is what i was told.

Terry please hepls b/c I WANT YOUR TURBO KIT!!! :(

Like I have mentioned before if you get rid of the pre-cat and just use the second cat I'm pretty sure that you can pass emissions! Hey Terry funny story!!!

For everybody worried about NJ inspection...it's really a pathetic joke. I drove a 12 second El Camino in and came out with a nice new sticker (Of course, it's fuel injected!) V8 Volvos pass smog test here all the time(visual in NJ only consists of checking for a cat), and my "soon to be" supercharged P5 will pass...I guarantee it. Honestly, I don't think they'd know that there were 2 cats to begin with so removing one probably won't be a big deal. I bet Spool's kit will pass emissions in NJ without unhooking the FMU. If not, maybe consider supplemental air injection into the exhaust. This way, nothing to unhook and you'll pass roadside stops if they ever try to get you on those! Put it on a separate belt that you can remove at the track
Our kits have already passed emmisions in Pensylvania with flying colors. Modern day cars even with no cats could pass a smog test (not visual), its relativley easy. Our kits are not Carb certified, however they should pass in all 50 states.

Now that is what I call Marketing!!!!!!
Its gustapo tactics:D

Count me in. I should have my JIC exhaust the 1st or 2nd week in February. I am seriously considering getting that off-raod pipe from BEGI.

Terry,

Is there a chance that you'll pursue CARB certification for your kit for those of us in California?

Have you had any California customers yet, and do you know what their experiences have been with the smog inspections? (Thankfully I am in nor-cal where they haven't implemented smog check II yet so it's a little less stress, but that's a big yet, rumors are it's coming up here though).

Does your kit with the shorty header preserve both cats so it will pass a visual inspection?

Thanks!

i want to know if the turbo passes california smog also... does anyone know for sure?

If you remove a cat, you will not get CARB certification. You might be able to pass a sniffer test, but visual will be a big fail.

I'd love to see a real dyno graph of this kit. Don't ever go back to a place that doesn't know to hook up the ignition signal! Amateur hour.

Hey Terry, ...

I've never really seen your setup real close. Is it even possible to get a downpipe made that would retain the first cat?

Terry-nice cop story! Hehe.

Wow, a lot of you guys are in NJ...KzA...I live near Stockton College...probably 45 mins from you.

Hey kooldino you know if you still have doubts why dont you contact Lazablump3 I think he also lives in New Jersey and he will be getting the Spool stage 3 kit. You can check his out for yourself.

hey

has anyone lowered the compression in their engine and upped the boost even more? like to 14psi???? that's where i want to head in the near future. it's more than possible with 8.8:1 compression....just wanting to see if anyone has gone there yet

later

I was thinking about doing that, but I'm getting rid of my car so I'm not now. I think if you lowered the compression, you might as well get forged pistons and rods. You would easily get over 250hp by doing so.

Hey Ben do you know how much it would cost to get forged pistons and rods? Also, after you get all that how do you deal with the transmission. I heard that after 250hp the tranny's spider gears and stuff just break. I heard that from a mazda mechanic.

thomas knight makes a 2.2 stroker kit for the the 2.0 mazda engine that replaces almost all of the internals with steel forged, and you can get any compression you want. cost is almost 2000 dollars though.

Thomas Knight products don't have much love around here! Sorry.

Cool, I'll check him out. It's not that I have doubts, I just want to make sure that I DEFINTELY want the spool kit, not the FM. Although I'll be in florida in a few weeks, and maybe I'll stop by the shop and see the man himself...
