Need some help with color - I was rear ended a few months ago and the folks repairing my car (they came very highly recommended and have done a good job but stumpped.) are having problems getting the color. The first paint was to salmon and hardley any flake (yuck). So after that they did test strips on the old bumper using different brands same formula. All different. We finally came close with Sikkens paint, but it still just doesn't have that as I call it "Kick Ass" (msporange metallic orange color.

Has any one had any paint work done and if so can you get me information. Like you I bought this car cause of 1, the color, awesome, head turning color and 2 all the other cool stuff.

Thanks

Cheryl

I know that you can get touch-up paint from Mazda. Isn't there a way to get the paint from them in bulk? That, or maybe you can contact them (info on their site) and request the supplier of the paint.

There is something called a "Paint Code" on the drivers side door!

Yeah, but isnt' that just Mazda's paint code? If a 3rd party makes their own paint, they might cross-reference it with Mazda's number, but that isn't the same as getting the exact paint from Mazda or whoever made it for them.

a paint shop should be able to look up the code and get the correct color mixture. most shops have a computer that breaks things down by manufacturer...then they punch in the year and the code and it tells them what and how much to mix.

Someone on here has had similar issues witht the spicy orange. I think they said something about it being a 3 step paint process maybe using some pearl underneath. Try searching I know there is a thread.

a lotta people on here have gotten really clost matches just by takin the car in and letting the people use the code

that sucks, I got hit and they ordered paint from mazda.
but still had to add gold to the paint to match perfectly. it has a type of gold flake.

Actually if I'm not mistaken the flake in the orange paint is pink; it just looks gold because of the orange base coat.

Everyone here is correct and all those things have been done. This is a top rate professional shop and they pulled the codes from Mazda. There paint reps have even came out. One paint company has a camera that they use up close, take a pic and pull specs from that.

They have been excellent on making sure I am happy with the color and they also want to make sure they live up to their reputation.

Also, has any notice the spoiler being a little different color, more yellow, it's also the angle that makes it look odd, but it's not a perfect match.

Again thanks for all the imput. Maybe something will show up.

I have Black Mica, so I don't see a difference on the spoiler, but I am not surprised that you do. I think that the spoiler is added (and painted) here in the U.S. At least the ones they offer at the dealers as aftermarket are unpainted.

I have a spicy orange mazdaspeed and my spoiler is a little different color. Oh well still looks bad ass

I have the solution. My blazing yellow mica is similar and I had the same problem. The problem is is thatyour paint is a 3-step process. First they spray the orange base coat. Then they spray the pearlesenct coat (w/the flake). Then they spray the clear. When I had the same trouble, the had to call mazda and order a "paint-pack", which includes three different cans.

My body shop had sprayed mine four times before they called mazda. The first spray with the "pack" did the trick. It looks flawless. The paint code is just for the factory techs to steer themselves in the right direction. The touch-up actually doesn't match perfectly, but is good enough for small rock chips.

Good Luck!

paint match

if you ever look at an orange msp under an orange street light at night you can really tell the paint mismatch between the spoiler and the body. it really looks crappy. thats the case with my orange msp at least, probably because the body is not the same material as the spoiler. just my 2cents.

Yes, that's true with my yellow, as well. The body shop confirmed that the paint is too thin...that the plastic bumper area is painted over black, while the body is painted over gray primer. The car needs one or two additional coats of base before the pearlesecent and clear are applied.
