Someone rewired something?

So on my lunch break I took the chance to check out my fuses to see if maybe my A/C fuse was blown. It wasn't, and I can't figure out why my A/C compressor won't kick on, afraid I might need a new compressor. But that's not what I'm writing about.

While I was down there in the footwell of my car (and being laughed at by a coworker on her way to lunch), I discovered what looked like a crappy wire-splice, with a wire end taped off and just hanging. Like so:

Not having a wiring chart handy, and knowing a few people here do, does anyone have any idea whether this is normal, or someone changed something before I got the car? And if so, what got changed. And if something got changed, wth?

I did the power windows always on mod and I know I was in that area but don't remember what wires I played with.

This is the link but the pictures don't work anymore.

Nobody seems to have the full wiring diagrams for this car. The P5 wire has been severely edited. I'm debating on whether or not to fork out the $185 bucks for the book but I may have to buy the FSM first,... That sucks.

Kay, I got the wiring schematics from the FSM page (stickied at the top of this forum) and I've figured out which wire was apparently tapped/spliced. Appears to be part of the "Audio Unit" but I don't know enough about wiring schematics to be able to tell what is going on here. My best guess at the moment is that the previous owner had *something* installed that he wanted to get an ACC-on-only power source for?

Anyone have any better ideas than me? Like I said, I'm not fantastic with wiring yet.

I just noticed I forgot the link above,... But I went out and tried to take a picture of my connector. (yea I know it's a crap picture)

I don't have a black wire in my connector. Two pink and the blue. The top left is pink with a black stripe.

I can't tell if your pink wire is going into the top left corner,... I think it's supposed to.

I was busy taking my dash apart again to do my new and improved AC flickering light fix, so I didn't have much time till after dark.

So,... I think you're dead on with your deduction. Somebody most likely used that splice to tap in a "remote" wire for an amp to turn it on and off with the stereo.

I would just remove the tape, trim off the wire tap, make sure the pink/black wire is intact and plugged in, then do my AC mod along with Cheesehelmut's mod and fix your AC forever !!!

Ohh that black wire is for the cig. lighter,... mine works so I don't know where the hell it goes cause it's not in that connector ??? (unless it had something to do with one of my electrical mods,.. I can't remember.)

You can hook your compressor clutch directly to B+ on the battery to test the compressor operation. I don't know what wire but whatusername does.

Does your AC light come on ???

A/C light only comes on in position 1. I gotta get in there and do one or another of the A/C fixes. I saw your wiring-and-relay clusterCHuck (haha lol) in your rust-proofing thread, but I dunno if I'm *that* into it. I didn't have a working blower until last fall due to the common resistor failure, so I have gotten used to not having A/C, but on the rare occasions that I had a pretty lady friend in the passenger seat in dead summer, I suddenly really missed it.

But regardless, the A/C light does come on in fan position 1, but the compressor clutch does not engage.

Pink wire goes to left-center terminal, pink/blue goes to top-left.

Yea,.. I'm still in the final stages of R&D,... but I'm gonna shorten and clean up the wiring then mount it.

I started up the car this morning (last night I just tried the blower speeds with engine off) and I get all four AC fan speeds.

I'm about 97.5% sure that with this "fix" along with cheesehelmuts resistor "fix",... every P5 will have a fully functioning A/C. UNLESS,... you don't have a blower at all.

If you are missing any blower speeds (even in heat mode) then you either have (1) a dirty switch (2) burnt or bad connections on the switch terminals on the switch (3) a bad resistor pack.

If you are missing any blower speeds you will need to address that problem first then these "fixes" will prevent any reoccurrence.
