Some Questions

Greetings, we have a 2024 CX-5...

The other day, my wife stated that the cluster was showing a message that said to service soon. I switched the setting from automatic to manual and now it says something like "service in 2700 miles" which is odd because we did an oil/oil filter change 300 miles ago so the system is suggesting that we change it again in 3K mile increments? We do not drive it hard and my understanding is that Mazda suggests up to 7500 mile increments under normal driving conditions. Our CX-5 currently has 9100 miles on it.

Also, there is a greenish material seeped out from a pipe junction into the back of the engine. Is this simply excess junction sealant or is this something of concern? I supplied a zoomed out image and a zoomed in image for location reference.

Good question about the message. I can't seem to master control of it either...
As for the OCI, I'm sticking to every 5k or a year, which ever comes first.

The green stuff is likely dried coolant. I would show it to dealer service department and see what they say, get it on record. It's certainly not normal to see any kind of a leak there, where flange for coolant hose enters the enging block.

I'm going to assume that the coolant level was a full when the vehicle was constructed. We recently discovered that the level at the LOW line of the res. I topped it off and it literally only took a splash to do that.

I'm keeping an eye on it...

It seems that a great many CX-5's are shipped with the coolant level on the low side, mine was. Along with the rear differential, but that's another story.

What coolant did you use to top off the coolant reservoir? I certainly hope that you used Mazda FL22? If you did not, in my opinion, you made a mistake.

As for the green stuff in your pics. Is it hard, as in some sort of sealant, or can it be wiped off, as in leaked coolant? It looks like sealant in the pic, to me at least.

The service notice that you received is completely adjustable. These notices can be set for automatic, by date, and/or by milage traveled. See you owner's manual for details.

It's definitely dried coolant. Crusty. I removed a piece and crumbled it between my fingers. We will take it in to Mazda for a look see.
Good idea.

While you are there ask them about the service reminder. It wouldnt be the first time it wasn’t reset when the most recent oil change was done.

Personally I have mine set to the standard every 12 months/15,000KM whichever comes first. The “flexible” setting in my opinion is BS.

I change my oil myself in between dealer services eg every 7500kms or thereabouts.

I also supply the dealer with the oil to use. That (a) ensures that my car gets the same high quality oil every change, and (b) it saves me a heap of money compared to what they charge for the “who knows what” oil they use. I can actually watch the service being done from the waiting area, which overlooks the service bays.

They will let you use your own oil/filter? What brand/viscosity?

Yes. Oil, not filter, they supply the Mazda filter.

An Aussie brand you probably wont have heard of - Penrite. The particular version is Enviro+ 0W20.

I have supplied own oil - when car goes into my local dealer “Redlands Mazda” for many years.

They have done the servicing for both our current 2024 Akera and previous diesel Akera from 2016-2024. My brother does the same thing with his CX5 with them since 2012.

They’re quite OK with us supplying the oil. Gave the Penrite the OK from day 1.

Their work has been generally good and prices reasonable in all that time. Carried out a few warranty jobs without too much difficulty.
