The SRT-4 that runs in CSP ( SP something?) had a wheel sheer right off of his driver's side front yesterday while on course at SCCA SoloII Nationals. The car rolled to a stop on the rotor, until it broke off also. Took out the rotor, wheel, fender, hub, sway bar, knuckle, tie-rod, tire and fender liner.

The driver said it was the second time it's happened.

I know the SRT-4 crowd likes to talk smack on this board, so here it is back. AND in front of a few thousand witnesses.

Ohh, the three MSP's that were there all ran without a problem.

The other 18 or so SRTs had no problems. This is the first time it happened to him, it happened to one other racer on the track, but that turned out to be a wheels torque problem.

Plus, a wheel falls off every year to someone. Most of the time it is because they didn't torque them down.

So two out of what, 20,000 or so SRTs built. That sounds like pretty good numbers to me. Won't hurt reps any.

LAst track day I was at an AMG Mercedes lost a wheel. Does that make them POSs?

At least thier LSDs aren't blowing up and being replaced with inferior units.

Exhaust seperating at the cats? Not the SRT.

Rear sway bar bushings need replaced every 1,000 miles? Not the SRT?

BTW, how many SRT owners have come on here to talk s***?

i've seen quite a few of those SRT's snap axles..everytime I've been up to lebanon this summer there has been a broken SRT-4..
 
didn't someone just come on here and say that the SRT and the MSP use the same axles?

Axels, noise, oil leaks, interior, wheel gap and turning radius are the only common complains I hear about the SRT-4. all relatively easy and cheap fix.

A wheel comming off sounds like his problem...not the manufatuer. someone didnt torque something right. it is kinda odd that everything else fell off after the wheel...someone botched up a suspention install.

Good car...but not my type. 400-500 hp SRT-4 are poping up everywhere. At 1st it was amazing now its just boring...like an SR20 swap in a 240....yeah its fast but anyone can do it. engine is a masterpiece....in stock form. SRT-4 pretty decent cars although some owners get very cocky.

Well, whatever the hell happened, I'm glad I've got power windows in the back. Mostly because I'm a lazy ****.

I'm not saying there weren't 18 SRT's, just the three I saw on Thursday, I wasn't covering that class. The guy said he also runs in T2 in club racing and that it's happened on that car also. Not saying if that's true either, it's just what he said.

It did also happen to an SRT at MAM on a club day this spring so I doubt it's all that uncomon. ya'll shouda' seen how far that tire rolled.
 
wuts the point in bashing other cars, in general? i could understand cars that you know, but dont generalize people just because of the car they own ... stock for stock, that car can take a WRX with a good driver, nevertheless beat the s*** out of any MSP .....
 
I wasn't bashing them, just stating what happend. FWIW, I've owned 2 ACR Neons and loved them both. (until they barffed head gaskets)

Just seemed really weird that the wheel came off, and that it was the second time it's happened to him. And all the damage it did when it came off. And that Dodge was willing to overnight all the parts for 8am delivery. Also people saw him re-torquing the lugnuts before the run so they couldn't have been THAT loose -- it was only a fifty second course.

? thats true no point in bashing...but my advice is think beyond the straight line. A Miata may be slow but it can own alot of cars in autoX. So its slow in a straight line but extremely fast in the corners (turns on a dime). A Corvette is faster and can out gun a lotus but most brits consider a Lotus Elise as fast and it no where near a corvette in 1/4 mile times. just get pissed when people say own this and own that but its all reletive...and obviously everyone thinks drag racing....cuz this is america. i.e. in Europe and Japan a car that can take corners good is consider fast...they dont really care about straightline fast. No one really talks about 1/4 mile times like in the magazines (mybe britian)...its 0-60, sloam and gs. They dont even have drag strips in Japan. We think straight everyone else thinks corners.

To note the guys wasnt bashing he never said SRT-4s sucks...hes just reporting on what happened. Dont really know the purpose or why talk about SRT-4 owners but we all know SRT-4 guys get very touchy about their cars...i.e. when you call it a "Neon"
