smoked taillights?

got any pics of the smoked overlays installed on the "bulge" type tail lights? How hard is it to istall and manipulate the over lay around the bulge.

Hard as falk! but i tried to do it on the car. how do i take off the outside tail lights. there seems to be a screw i dont know how to get to...

i can get the inside ones but not the outside... HALP!

can you tell me how i can split my tail lights, i planned on painting the insides but i couldn't figure out how to take off the clear plastic part so i had to put it back on the car... :(
If you bake them in a conventional oven at 200* for 20min., you should be able to open them up. And when it comes to resealing the lights.. do the same steps, but in reverse.

Done this mod to friend's MS6, in order to fix one of the lenses that came loose, as well as other lights without any issues whatsoever.(wiggle)

Done using black paint and clear. These are the CAR_LED tails too.
Didn't really wanna think about screwing up a $400 set of tails, so I had them professionally done and would highly recommend it.

That's the best i've seen so far. Love those Car_led tails too!

Are there any vinyl overlays that cover the whole tail light and are a little darker than 6/10 on the smoke factor?

best way to smoke em is mix clear coat and black car paint at about 2:1 then spray em with it.

2:1 is way too much black! id use more along the lines of 4:1 or maybe even 6:1! when i did my focus tailights i did 2 coats of 4 parts clear to 1 part black and it was too dark! make sure to use single stage black so that the paint doesnt blotch from the clear! if its single stage the clear and the paint will become one and harden in perfect harmony! lol

I hate to hijack this thread, but i had a problem with my nightshading the other day.

I already made a another thread before finding this one. Hopefully someone can help because i hate driving around with something jacked up on my car.

So i decided to nightshade(spray paint for lights) my 3rd brake light. Well i pull the light out sand it down and do the instructions on the can. This isn't my first time doing this and have done the same thing on my blinkers and reflectors. So my problem is, is that after i painted i noticed that their was more dominate veins in the coat. Looked like stress cracks with a rigid finish, not as smooth as my other jobs.

I don't know what went wrong i painted the same as my other jobs. So i tried wet sanding it down and repainted with lighter coats. This time around i finished and the veins were not as visible. Can't really notice unless the brake light pressed now.

Sucks that this isn't "perfect" but i was wondering what would cause this to happen? I am not a paint pro so i wanted to know if it was something that i didn't know. If i can i will just get some more nightshade and resand and try again in the future.

Is there any way i can recover from this without having to buy a new light casing?

i had the same problem. how many coats did you do, and have you done a clear? i did the same and i decided to wet sand them till they were super smooth. turnd out perfect. then i did a high gloss automotive clear. it cost me $27 for the spray can. worked great

I did 3 coats. No clear yet, i was going to but waited until i can fix it first.

I will get a new can of nightshade and wet sand it back down and try again, and then clear coat it.

Only thing i can think of is that the can was kinda old and almost out to be causing this.

you dnt have to go all the say down, just enough to get the cracks out.

when you do the clear. take ur time
good luck!

Not too sure of this, but it could possibly be the fact that you sprayed the coat too thick, and some of the paint ran and made the lines. I could be wrong...

I don't know what it was but i got a fresh can today and resanded it back down. Repainted it outside this time around and had no problems at 3rd coat. Then clear coated and it's pure gold status now.

Weird whatever it was that was causing this, but at least it was fixable.

Thanks to everybody that chimed it helped a lot.

i warned a few of the ms6 owners about this stuff, i wish i would have seen this thread before you wasted your time

glad you got it fixed
