Smart Key

Went to start my wifes 2010 CX-9 - has smart key - would not start and steering column is locked - then i would open the door and the car would start beeping. Tried to get the car started with the manual key and it wont turn - how do i get it started

Wait, you can turn the ignition all the way to 'on' or 'acc' with the smart key in the car? If so, then I think your gear selector might not in P or N. That should also explain not being able to start with the manual key.

I think you should make sure if the steering wheel is in lock position (i.e. turned all the way to one side).
If not the cause, then likely the SmartKey sensor inside the key cylinder is bad. It is supposed to scan the RFID
in the card or key to allow turning the cylinder to start the engine.

smartcard sucks

well got the car started by jiggling the steering wheel. replaced the battery and now the smartcard only occasionaly works to start the car

is there anything that has to be done once a new battery is added to the smartcard

I just replaced the smart(?)card battery and haven't had to do anything else. Seem to work as well as a smartcard card can.
