hey i have a 2002 protege5 and when i first got it, the car used to jump when i hit the gas but lately the car has such slow pickup...i dont get it

i've done all the oil changes and everything.....i goto shell gas station and use bronze gas (the cheapest one) cuz thats what the dealer told me the car was made for

what can it be???

its hardly driven, never been on any long trips or anything
i dont think it needs a tuneup, the plugs should be fine, the air filter i change wit the oil change
my dad was sayin somthing about injectors....soemthing about buyin a cleaner and puttin it into the tank b4 fillin up on gas

That's great, but how many miles does the car have. With low miles, the injectors would have gone bad before they got fouled. Also, do you have an auto or manual?

And just so you know, the dealer will lie to you every chance they get. Synthetic is always better for a piston engine.

I dont know what the hell this is, but it's really cool>>>(pullup)

ok first i have to say that i have a simalair problem but u might need to check ur plugs and stop using shell thats the nastyest gas out there and we cant just change our fuel filter when it getts clogged (and thats what shell gas does ) bc we dont have a filter we have a "sock" but yea change ur gas and ur premi but u need to clean/flush ur fuel system and change ur pluggs and see what happens

wow they told you to use cheap gas? i dont understand that logic. but ok. ive never heard about shell gas being that bad but i have always used chevron premium and never had a problem s*** its got techron lol. but try switching gas so a premium..

87 Octane is all our proteges (stock) need.

what 87 is not all u need... its not about power or nething a premium gas is going to burn better period which will increase life in certain parts as well as keep cleaner

my car has had a hesitation problem in the low RPM's the past month or so. i hae my EGR vavle replaced a month ago and the original was cleaned about two months ago. i passed many CEL's diring that time.

when i talked with my dealer last month and informed him if the hesitation problem. he asked if i used mobile gas? i said i use exon, which is mobile. he informed me that mazda's don't like mobile gas, which i thought was and still is a crock of s***.....anyway, he told me to run some shell in the engine. i used two tanks worth and i still have the problem.....

the car is going to the dealer this monday and i hope they fix the probmem. the car runs fine except between 1-2 and sometimes between 2-3 thousand RPM's.

it pissed me off becasue it makes my driving look bad when the car hesitates when trying to speed up when under 2K on 2-4 gear.......

u guys chevron is the best gas.....
have no chevron up here near me in MA. i always thought mobile and exon were the best. i used getty gas from 94-99 and pretty much anything since then (generic stations???) and have never had a problem. we will see monday???

well what about a bp? cuz i know some bps are buying out chevron not sure if they had a merger thing or what but we dont have ne bps around here so i dont know ne thoughts on bp gas? when i was up in ky i use to run it and never had a problem

Shell is one of the worsts gas there is. My friend always put 93 shell V-power crap in his benz, and the gas guage kept breaking. They said dont use shell cuz its so crappy. Expensive too. And chevron is not the best. Definetly Mobile. In synthetic oil and gasoline.

I was also wondering about the lack of fuel filter in our cars. I went to Auto Zone and the guy said they dont have gas filters, but he said it doesnt mean i dont have to change it they just dont have it. can u explain this sock concept to us idiots? thx

Not quite sure I understood what you just said... but here's a quick brief on how
the whole octaine thing works.

Octaine is a combustion retardant. Higher octaine fuels do not ignite as quickly,
which is good for high compression, and forced induction engines, but bad for us.
Higher octaine in no way implies "cleaner" gas, octaine is an additive, and has absolutely
no affect on how 'clean' the fuel burns.

The long and short of it is this... if you are putting anything above 87 octaine
in a stock P5 or MP3 you are running the risk of having to replace your cat.
Higher octaine fuels may not fully burn in cars that were not designed to run
them. This can cause the unburnt fuel to collect in your catalitic converter,
and eventually, it can cause it to fail.

If you are putting 89, 91, 93 etc octaine fuel in your P5 and you haven't upgraded
to high compression pistons or a turbocharger, you may as well be pissing money
down a well.

ok i guess let me rephase what i was saying into smarter terms...
octane is basically a rating that tells how much fuel can be compressed b4 it spontaneously ignites. when gas ignites by compression rather than because of spark, it causes knocking. which we all know causes dmg etc. lower the octane of gas the less compression it can handle

and as for burning cleaner if im not mistaken yes it does burn cleaner and is suppose to be better for our "air" i may be wrong.....
