Should I sell? 2002 Protege 5 Blown Gasket, otherwise great condition

I'm in Austin, TX, bought the Protege5 used in Feburary, I'm the 2nd owner.
It was in great shape, did the necessary maintainence, but I've got a blown gasket.


How much is my car worth with a blown gasket?
Would someone buy the car as is, or is it necessary to throw down for the repair?


The car:

• Yellow 2002 Mazda Protege 5,
• standard
• 96,000 miles
• sunroof
• security system
• roof rack
• body in excellent condition
• interior in good condition

Why not just fix it and keep it? Do the head gasket new water pump and timing belt and aside from oil changes you'll be good to go for 100k mile or more. It has low miles on it already

My car ate a bearing the same time the headgasket blew, I would drop the oil pan and check for metal.

To me a broken protege would be worth about $1000-$1500
