Should I fear the Zoom Zoom Boom?

Don't fear the reaper.

I never had either... I know of a guy around town who is running 30lb. of boost. I don't know what all he has done to the car, but he hasn't had any problems. I'm assuming it really is luck of the draw.

Well ultimately, you have to remember why some of these cars were built:

SRT-4's and the Ecotec 2.4l 4cyl in Cobalt's are actually pretty tough engines. I've seen them hold upwards of 400hp until problems start.

Just because our car came stock with a turbo, doesn't mean it's meant to be bullet-proof up to the same extent. Even the turbo itself was designed in the most conservative and cost-effective fashion.

And Mazda's never been a straight up HP company anyhow, their main kick is motorsports and handling. And this car handles amazingly, brakes are awesome, and it has just enough power to punch you out of corners.

Once you appreciate the car for what it is, it makes a huge difference. It's NOT a straightline car, it's not a 1/4 mile car. You don't see me drag-racing a damn person from a dead stop. From a roll? Maybe another story lol..

I still don't understand your broken english.

Your car blew up as well? Or you're being sarcastic at the low amount of actual engine failures?

i think he's frustrated at the number of people panicking over "all the blown ms3 engines" when, in fact, there have not been that many unexpected engine deaths. this doesn't include the no-brainers (untuned big turbo cars).

Makes sense. Thanks!

Yeah I remember reading about how Evo's and WRX's, you have to tune everytime you mod. Our cars should be no different really. Although I don't know what you'd tune, other than make the ECU recognize the new gains.

our ECUs are actually pretty darn adaptive. people who are fully bolted on (intake, exhaust, mani, ic, fp, etc.) are still running the stock ECU, which is pretty damn impressive.

And several "oops I accidentally shifted to 2nd instead of 4th"!

Swampthing, don't you mean shifting from 6th to 2nd? Or am I the only one who read that thread yesterday. How in the hell do you go from 6th to 2nd? That's right, it is the kids first stick shift and he only had it 2 weeks.

It's ass! I had read that a few people were riding out 3rd gear to shift into 4th and pulling it back into 2nd by accident causing a huge over rev that ventilated the block.

they must have a funny concept of what's "down"...

I've pulled from 2nd to 1st a few times powershifting. Not sure how 6th to 2nd would work.

I see a lot of panicking over some strange things. I guess for me it's just matter of breaking it, fixing it, going faster.
