Mazda Protege5
I went and looked at the 2003 Mazda Protege5 yesterday, the guy is asking for $3500 and it only has 120,000 km's on it. However, the ABS and Emergency Brake light are always on and he can't get them to turn off. Could be a sensor issue, and he took it to his mechanic friend and was quoted about $800 to fix the problem. I took a look at the brake pads and they seemed to be a bit rusty. This guy is the second owner and it doesn't look like the brakes have been replaced at all. Also, the tires currently on the vehicle had a bit of wear to them so they would probably need to be replaced. I would be fine with doing that, however don't want problems with the brakes to occur as I know it would be an expensive fix. Any thoughts on this vehicle??

So definitely not an $800 fix? I was just worried about the brake pads. I'm not looking for a spectacular car to last me for another 10 years, so I don't expect everything to be perfect. Just wouldn't want the brakes to give out on me and have to replace the rotors, calipers for an expensive price

$800 would cover nearly a whole new braking system... ABS sensors can be pretty expensive if you get Mazda but they can be had for a lot less.

That's what I figured. I wasn't sure if this guy quoted $800 on fixing sensor issues or the whole new braking system. And was left wondering if the fact the brakes are a bit worn out if causing the ABS light to be on etc
