Severe problems with spool kit .. need help ASAP

AN-6 is too SMALL for a return oil line. You MUST use at least AN-10.

Once that is fixed, the car will still smoke for a while until all the oil in the exhaust is smoked out.

we did the oil pressure mod and were doing and an10 fitting on the turbo ..

what psi should we shoot for with the mod...

we set it at 25 psi... should we go lower or higher?

I would leave the oil feed line the way it is. The problem is in the return. If you go to a an-10 you will be fine. On the roller bearing turbos people feel that the oil pressure should be lower. Even then not all agree with lower pressure being better.

Thanks again

going to a -10 hose without changing the fitting in the oil pan will not do anything for you. you have to change everything downstream of the turbo to -10 to get the pressure drop.

just putting a -10 to -6 reducer will not cut it

Yo, I'm Chris's friend, we're doing this install in my garage, heres an update....

Well what we did was take AN8 to AN10 male-male pieces our friend had lying around, and stuck the AN8 side into the turbo and the oil pan. Before we did that, we drilled out the inside so it was AN10 diameter all the way thru (using a lathe). So we used some jerry-rigged crazy ass AN10 type line with tons of brass fittings, just to test it out. It had a section where the line dipped down below the pan and back up, so not ideal but at least we could run the car with the new AN10 line all the way thru to see if it still smoked. Well the smoke never showed up after running it for 5-10 min in my garage.

So now we just need to get some real AN10 line and and connectors to hook into our existing AN10 connecters coming out of the turbo and oil pan. It looks as if this should solve it since it doesnt smoke anymore.

these pics arent final, you cant see the valve to back down oil feed pressure and a few other things (such as the return line), they will be updated later

vids from Sat night (when it was still smoking at idle), Chris is running only a down pipe, no exhaust or anything...

Nice.... Makes me wish I kept the P5 and put that kit on instead of buying the 3... Hope it all works out well and have fun.

You may still have some smoke for a while. The exhaust likes to store oil. It may take more then a few miles of driving before all of the smoke is gone.

Thanks again

No need to wish. We are designing a kit for the 3. Just contact me via PM. If you would like to be a guinue pig let me know. Bring the car to Wagner motorsports and we will talk.

The smoke cleared up right when we started it, so already its a lot better. We're bout to install the AN10 hose :D

All fixed! It's fast, pulls hard to redline...

Here's the link to those pics again, the pics after the undercar shot of the return line are from the current set up. Notice the ghetto rig for checking oil pressure on the turbo oil feed line...that gauge is coming off soon, as well as the needle valve that regulated oil feed pressure.

a few more movies, we're gonna get some drive bys later on and some better pulls

i dont believe he is running a fuel clamp but he is running a "black box" at the ecu that senses the boost pressure and does something accordingly. I wasnt exactly sure what it was for but i belive it had something to do with 02 modulation.

Chris is running at about 6 psi right now non intercooled. I guess that is what the wastegate was set at. it says it on there. He is also running the open down pipe for now and let me tell you...... his cars is fast as SHIAT!

It pulls much harder then my mazdaspeed did stock or even with mods and 8-9 psi and FMIC. He also has a lightened fylwheel so i think this also has something to do with it.
Good job Spool on a well-designed kit.

His car is FAST no jk

Thats the FM Fuel clamp. It keeps the pcm from pulling fuel in closed loop.

Good to see another turbo mp3, but be careful at 6psi, w/ the open downpipe and wastegate you wont be able to hear any detonation that is occuring. Hate to see it blown the week the kit goes on.

Why does your motor look so corroded btw?

Most of the harmul detonation that really harms engines in the upper RPM range you can't hear anyways. I know he is gettin a knock sensor later on.

His engine looks normal to me for 49k miles, but then again I'm from MI too where they salt the roads like theres no tomorrow when it snows...
