I'm new to the Mazda family and all. I have owned Nissan's for a long time, probably because I worked there. Anyways, never had service issues like this.
I took my 02 Pro 5 in last week because I noticed a vibration in the steering wheel when I braked. I thought no big deal, only has 12,000 miles on it. I called the dealer first to make sure they'd take care of it if the rotors were warped and he said yes up unti 24,000 miles. I said cool, I'll bring it up there, this dealer is like 45 minutes from my house---out of the way, but I figured I got a hell of a deal on the car when I bought it I'll go back for service.
I dropped it off in the morning as soon as they opened and left it there, my mistake, guess I should have had one of their mechanics ride with me to show them the problem. Anyways, I get a call back from them at about 2:30 pm that day saying there was nothing wrong with my car, he had 2 service advisors drive it and they couldn't feel anything. I thought you are kidding me right? My wife could feel the vibration and she doesn't even know how to check the oil in her car! Anyways, I argued a bit and he said if I could make it back up there before they closed I could ride with someone and see then. Well I did and the guy still didn't feel any vibration even though I look over and see the wheel shaking myself. They talked me down a bit, because I was pretty pissed in a subtle way. I was not irate. I said ok, I'll keep driving it, if it gets worse, I'll bring it back. Well, 2-3 days later I hear a rubbing sound, like the pad is rubbing against the rotor and it goes away when braking. My wife noticed this sound too, as she drove the car Saturday. So I called the same dealership again and explained the problem, no big deal, bring it up and we'll look at it he said. I get there and wanted someone to ride with me, had to wait 20 minutes. The guy didn't feel anything or hear anything, when I could clearly hear the brakes rubbing or dragging. He told me I would have to pay for a brake inspection if I wanted them to do any further checking on it. I said that does not seem fair. He gets the service manager involved and rides with me, the manager declines to hear anything once again, but he says pull it in the service drive and I personally will make sure they check your brakes out at no charge. I did just that and when I pulled in the service drive the advisor asked me if I was going to pay for that and I said no, the manager said he was going to take care of that. Well , the manager was right there as well and he did not say a word or back me up, so I said ok, I'll take it elsewhere, which I don't want to do and I will call the BBB which I alread did.
Am I outta line here? I mean it's just brakes, but what's the big deal. I know my car because I drive it everyday, the damn steering wheel shakes when braking and now I have an annoying brake noise! What would you do?
