is anyone using a screamer pipe on their MS3 and whats the benefit of using one, how does it chagne the sound of the car, does it help performance?

Screamer pipe is the external wastegate exhaust pipe that legally should be joined back into the exhaust before the cat. However to be a proper "screamer pipe" it does not join into the exhaust, it dumps straight out into the atmosphere creating a noise similar to a Jet at full noise when it starts to take off. Very loud, very cool, very illegal, very annoying after the first week.

It's used on an external wastegate only.

picture this, but the smaller pipe is NOT re-inserted back into the main exhaust.

A "divorced" wastegate dumps the gases directly into the atmosphere, instead of returning them with the rest of an engine's exhaust. This is done to prevent turbulence to the exhaust flow and reduce total back pressure in the exhaust system. Divorced wastegate dumper pipes are commonly referred to as "screamer pipes" due to the unmuffled waste exhaust gases and the associated loud noises they produce.

Screamer pipes are usually for an externally wastegated turbocharger. Once the wastegate opens you will hear a very loud 'shhhhhhhhhhhhhh noise. Benefits are less turbulence in the exhaust system and the sound is addicting.

yes it's very loud.. i actually tried to muffle mine by wrapping the pipe.. sure it toned it down quite a bit but it still screams

Well his set up is with a G35R and the external wastegate is to help stop boost creep from having a too small of a wastegate internally. The screamer pipe is to dump the exhaust gases that pass through the wastegate and not let them go through the exhaust system again, which causes turbulence and unneeded back pressure.

depends, it holds boost much better and much more consistent, and if you know what u r doing its super easy to tune. I am sure you would see a nice increase in power with an ewg in this car.

lol. whoosh has parted his car out. but there there is another member with a gt28 w/ ewg dumping back into the exhaust that P3 fabbed up for him, and palerider is going that way with a gt35r. finally some decent number BT setups...

i know its been a while since anyone posted on this thread but I have a question...if you were to install the pg ewg exhaust manifold would it be absolutely necessary to weld the factory turbo wastegate shut? or is it possible to tune/set both wastegates to work in harmony with eachother? I would imagine that you would end up loosing boost right?

It would be far more efficient to just weld the IWG shut.

You will have all sorts of boost control issues trying to use both. With that said, I'm not sure if you would lose boost or overboost, but there is serious potential for issues (obviously).

If it's recirculated I don't think it's considered a screener pipe any more. I do believe it's called a screamer because your dumping it into the atmosphere and that's why it "screams"

You are correct sir.

A screamer pipe is when the waste gate outlet is dumped to atmosphere.

You can't run an IWG and an EWG at the same time. If the turbo already is internally gated, the IWG has to be welded shut to run an EWG.
