Wait. Just noticed this. They're hating on the Mazda because Americans have cheap gas???
(uhm)

No they are hating on high HP cars because they get less MPG and fuel economy is KING over there.

I was more poking fun at them that making a direct reference. They usually frown on anything that dosen't sip gas.

Yeah,that was a good!

Anyway,I completely agree about what they said about the Spec V.Horrible exterior!!!I mean, the performance is great, but damn...that s*** is ugly(lol2).But it's nice to see Mazda come out on top of a comparison test!(rockon)

I really don't think the spec V performance was all that great. I think the thing it has going for it is that it has the best ride (which in this group is not always a good thing) and the limited slip diff.

The looks just sink the thing though.

Yup! Took me forever to scan and crop and upload the dang thing but no one seemed to find or notice it. I almost feel like I wasted my time. But hey as long as one person gets to read it! I know I like to see what the auto mags say about cars I'm interested in or own.

Good job man

I've noticed that Car and Driver has really limited putting imports against domestics now. Their last econocar comparison was all imports. Do you think they're feeling pressure from car makers to stop panning their cars?

Then again, most of these cars were all-new for 2007. They probably put the WRX in since it took second place in their last Cheap Speed round, where the RSX took top score.

Of course, knowing CAD...if they put in the Civic Si sedan, it would have gotten first place.

Maybe they got confused and thought the 3 was a BMW 3-series?
3-series--> (humpleg) <--C&D

Give the MS3 SOME credit, its not as ugly as the new bangle-ized 3 series! I mean its no P5 in the looks dept but surely nicer looking than the 3 series. :)

I read this article last week. It is nice to see Mazda coming out on top for a change. Every time I drive the MS3 it puts a smile on my face.

MS3 FTW. "Everything in this car happens in italics." <- I love that.

It's strange reading the WRX review. When it came debuted back in '01, it was the greatest thing since oxygen. Now it's like it's some old dog... I guess 6 years of advancements does that.

...The kicked the crap out of the Spec-V... o.O

I think the revised subaru will come a long way as far as fit and finish and drivetrain. But man did they beat it with the ugly stick!

But yeah the WRX is long in the tooth now. I still would have put it ahead of the spec-V though.

But for now the MS3 reigns supreme. When the (ugly) Caliber SRT4 hits, I'll be very interested to read that comparo. I can see the SRT4 having the engine and drivetrain advantage but the MS3 having the edge in fit and finish and handling.
