Rusting lug nuts

:
Silver 2001 Toyota Celica
The lug nuts on the Celica are rusting on the inside surface where the socket goes into the nut. I called the place I bought them (speedandstyle.com), plus asked around about this problem with some other guys here at work, and everyone said its normal, wont cause any problems, but it looks ugly as crap.

I did try the search button (Matthew!), but found nothing helpful. Has anyone had this problem and knows what kind of lug nuts to get that wont rust? Also, any suggestions about where to buy them? Speedandstyle.com doesn't sell them, but the guy I talked to there said that local tire stores would probably have them. I just dont want to pay too much, and those places always overcharge for crap like that. The guy said they were tuner-style lugnuts, that a socket goes into, rather than onto like a regular nut, and because they are just chromed steel, the chrome finish isnt very sturdy inside and the steel rusts.

Thanks!

Tuner style lug nuts are the absolute worst. You should invest in some quality ones.

i have some tuner style nuts made by gorilla on my car and they have not shown any sign of rust. they have been on for a little over a year. Gorilla lug nuts are all i will sell with all the wheel and tire packages i sell.

Thanks for the feedback... I am not saying I wanted these kind, thats just what they sent. What would you recommend to replace them with??

Gorilla and other name brands excluded. I'm talking about the general ones that rim stores throw in when you buy wheels.:)

i pm'ed u......
there a few aftermarket fwd wheels that will accept oem lug nuts. its worth the investment buy a good set.

Usually always a good rule of thumb to get at least 2 sets of good lug nuts. I wouldn't put the good ones on my car unless I'm going to show. No matter the brand I would think that most rust over time.

they might rust. ive only had mine on for a little over a year and ive probably only pulled the wheels off 5 or 6 times so, they may eventually start to rust, but as of now there is no sign of rust.

open ended lug nuts i.e. tuner style are more prone to rusting due to their openness with water sitting where the threads are.

the ones i have are spline drive. the grooves are on the outside so water does not sit on them

My weapon of choice.

Gorilla lug nuts, red anodized.

just use a brush and some wd40 to get rid of the rust, then put a little grease inside the nuts to stop water from accumulating....

Ahh... the free solution, I like that one. I will try it for now, and if it doesnt look good, I will buy some Gorilla lugs and treat them well. I have never even removed these wheels, thats the worst part, they were put on the car and then we didnt drive it almost all last winter (damn I hate snow), so no need to rotate the tires until now.

I've got a little bit of rust on my 08 Mazda3 lug nuts. Dealer told me that they shouldn't rust because they are aluminum. They told me they weren't that bad. I have had the car only 3 months. Now I did have the tires switched out when I first got it. Any suggestions or ideas.
