Rusted Rotor + TSB = RESULTS

Finally,

After weeks of calling the service center and debating on the phone with one of the "old jack" idiots at the counter...I finally got through to a manager who heard me out.

I walked into the White Plains, NY Mazda/ Nissan service center on Tarrytown road armed with my TSB regarding rust on rotors.

One of the older attendants at the front counter was trying to shut me down saying "its just cosmentic" and "well does it affect your driving and braking performance?" I sarcastically replied with what did you have for breakfast? When he asked the relavance, I asked its just as relevant as his question...
Now I had a small audience of people snickering as the tables turned, I said "If cars were sold soley on performance values, there should not be a problem, if the cars in the lot got their paint job, keyed down both doors prior to being sold, or for that matter, why paint them at all, because they still drive fine right?"

He replied with "let me get the manager"

When the manager came, (a much more calm and listening gentleman) I relayed my entire story to him and showed him the TSB... with that he took a look at the car, took down my phone # and said he will call me back with an answer.. he left by saying that he does not see why there should be any question once I presented the Mazda TSB, which clearly defines symptons and a course of action for authorizes repair centers.

2 days later he called and I have an appointment set for 11/10/03 at the center, he informed me that it will be a most of the day process because they want to be thorough and put the car up on the lift, remove the wheels and the rotors for a thorough sanding and then recoating.

I am glad that that TSB worked out...anyone in the area... I reccomend you get in there soon while the going is good... before they somehow change there policy....

Good to know.

I'll be taking my car in next week for 4 TSBs and hopefully I'll at least get the Rust one done.

yeah I'm doing the same thing today over here. I've got a thread that basically reads the same "Rusty Wheel Question." I had the issue where the rust was bonding the stock wheel to the rotor hub. They gave me a Yukon (I've decided this is for people that wanted a school bus but couldn't afford it) and I pick up my car in an hour. I'm gonna keep that other thread updated with the Blue Ridge Mazda progress and pics.

exactly,
the fact that someone is not even looking or reading the TSB and is in essence trying to discourage me from proceeding based on his warped view of the purpose of automotive technology...what an ass..

hey cbcbd
could you PM or post a link to any other TSB affecting an 02' p5 ?

UPDATE! I called and the paint is drying right now! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

sorry, this is a little exciting to me 'cause I've got a $50 bet that it wouldn't get taken care of. car is 9 months old but 21k miles so its out of the 12/12 rust warranty. yeah! pics to come...

and yes, I think its crap that we have to fight to get things taken care of. this is the second time I took it in for the same issue but at least its done! so I no longer have a beef with Blue Ridge Mazda. (rofl2)

P.S. I know its a lot of miles in a short time but I bought it in august with 17k on it and got a really good price...

Sure, it's all in theMAN's FAQ

http://web2.airmail.net/theman/protegefaq/

I'm going to try for:
-Rust on rotor hub
-New cross bar that should make less noise
-Engine rattle when high revving when engine is cold (stupid VTCS)
...and the one that I don't think I'll ever get done
-Clutch chatter during cold weather

Now the question is... can they talk s*** because I believe the TSB states Mazda Protege... but not exactly pertaining to the 5? My dealer said there was no TSB, but I'll take it in when I get inspections...

elias1974 ,

Can you post the actual tsb number they put on your work invoice? I brought the one from http://web2.airmail.net/theman/protegefaq/ but that MT# isn't in my dealers database as a Mazda tsb #. They even let me look thrugh their system and I couldn't find anything about a tsb for rotor rust. I found a lot of other interesting things, but nothing about the rotor rust.

Thanks.

Holy cow, I went to the same stupid dealership in White Plains, Rt.119, and they gave me the same crap that Elias1974 first got. I even had the tsb printed out and stuck it in the service manager's face.

I gave up though. Elias1974, good job. Maybe I'll try again...

Madbiker... when I get out of there on Monday with the service Invoice, I will get the service info off of there and post the info, that way anyone wanting to go to that service center can refer to that ticket number to use as a back up if the TSB alone does not work... In the meantine "mp5" here is the link to the TSB i used
http://web2.airmail.net/theman/protegefaq/tsb/mt000003559.html
i just copied and pasted into word and selected auto text to reverse the text color...

good luck

Is there anyway of me using your invoice, so that my dealer can repair the rusted area? The dealer I use is Smith-Cairns in Yonkers, NY.

I told the service rep. there once about the rusted hubs, and he replied with "what do you expect thats the first place to get rust and we can't repair it".

I will use this tactic when dealing with an uncooperative dealership:

Got to dealership to have (random) TSB repaired.
Receive a negative reply from service writer/manager.
Ask to use the phone in the service managers office with the manager in the room.
Call 1-800-225-5500.
Speak with customer service, let them know I have a TSB problem yet my dealer is un-willing to work with me. Ask customer service for a reason why your service department is not helpful. Make sure the service manager can hear this (speakerphone works best).

After this I'm sure they'll get right on it.

Repeat this for any and all problems that may come up in the future.

SMITH CARINS IN YONKERS, is ful of assholes..
I went there for service regarding the rust and the guy said he cant control the weather.... fking idiot... the whole thing is that these service centers think that they can(and sometimes do) justify what work is work that need to be done and whats not... take advice T-Matty... contacting the Mazda service line and referering to the service center that is not cooperating will have positive results..

Yeah, but I wouldn't bring my car in again after you've created that much fuss with the service department. You may win this time, but they could do some bad stuff (tiny) to your car as a revenge the next time you bring it in.

I was thinking the same thing that's why I didn't make a fuss about it.

well the car is there as we speak... 11:45est will let you know the results with pics (damn forgot to take before pics... well as you can imagine, they were fugly before....)

All of you who are having problems with the dealers, make sure after they paint the rotors, they dont get any paint where the pad would be touching. You guys sound like you have a bunch of idiots around and most likely somebody's gonna be in a rush and **** something up.

They're probally bitching because warranty dosent pay that much for this job.

Nah, it'll probably rub right off with a little braking.

That's exactly why they don't willingly do the work, the techs don't want to do it as warranty pays very little compared to regular work. They refuse to do my car and I WORK THERE!! :wtf:
The district service rep refused the work when I had my clutch chatter at the 'other' dealer. (see my story here )He then said he would cover it for me next time he was at my dealer and I brought it up. However my service manager and techs still don't want to do it as it pays very little. :wtf: (bang)
