Just had my 2008 Mazda 5 for a few days when i noticed a few "rust" looking spots on the wheel drum. Comes off easily. What is this stuff, I know it's not rust and I have seen it on other parts of my previous cars.

Wheel brake disc rotors, right? It is normal and goes away quickly after quick wear. Something like this below (not my pic, but good sample)

Thanks! The pic shows the situation spot on (no pun intended)!
Speaking of rust, any of you folks have an opinion on paint & rust protection?
I only got the fabric protection and a bug shield on my 2008 M5 GS so far. Not too late to add the P & R protection yet if I'm convinced.

you dont need it.

just have the car regularly detailed by a detailer who knows what they are doing.

undercarriage rust protection: yes

there isnt a magic paint product that protects paint from rust. You will just end up paying 500 dollars at a dealership for a sealant application that doesnt do anything.

Now that you mentioned that, I have done that with most of my cars but not all of them had the paint protection. I usually keep my cars for 7 to 10 years and tend to forget what I had done with them including the wife's many cars.
Will do that with the M5 for sure.
