rsx type s vs. msp

i have a 2000 honda civic si that ive been planning on trading in for an rsx type s. i used to be in love with mp3's a year and a half ago before i bought the honda, but i never did get one.

i was supposed to go to acura today to talk out numbers on the type s, but last night a friend and myself went to mazda and checked out the 2003.5 titanium and WOW...those things are sweet.

my cousin has a type s and i love it. but the msp looks like a fun car. then again, im reading about all of these problems you all have. the type s doesnt have many problems that i know about, but i do know that acura will cover anything that isnt my fault no problem if something WERE to go wrong.

which should i choose?

Hmmmm

Isn't the Type S RSX around $24,000? I like Hondas. The quality is among the best out there. I also love my MAZDASPEED. As I have said many times before; For my 20,500, I couldn't be happier. It's a wonderful car.

I don't race, although, I do plan to autocross some. But 1/4 mile, is of little ( no ) interest to me. I am boosting to 10psi, and it's fantastic.

It's really all in what you want, I guess

i just dont know how much im going to like 4 doors. the type s has a sweet ass interior. but the msp has so much to offer stock. i autocross, but i do worry about how fast my car is.

What are they getting for the Type S RSX in your area?

4 door sedans are nice. It's really kind of a new thing in this market for cars at, or under $21,000 (or so). Many people think of sedans as family cars. But; the convenience of having 4 doors is nice. Obviously since the introduction of cars like the MAZDASPEED, there are a lot more younger people buying them.

i believe the type s is going for 22-23 g's...but then again, acura is much more flexible on the price than mazda is on the price of the msp. theres only 2 at the dealer here in town. one 2003, and another 2003.5 so im sure they wont do much for me. plus, acura has 2.9% financing goin on right now and im sure thats better than mazda. but i dunno. im going to test drive both today, so we'll see what happens

well this can always escalate into a flame war, but if you are going to spend 23gs on an acura/honda (same thing), you might as well spend 1k more (prolly less than 20 in payments) and buy a WRX...as much as i love my mazda, i think the subaru is a much better import car for the money, with much more potential for speed than the MSP...plus, many dealerships (including EVERY one where i live) are choosing not to sell MSPs because of all the problems and heartache...frankly i dont see the MSPs lasting long on the market if some the dealerships arent even trying to sell them...it makes for bad business

Hey, im from Lou, and i guess you're looking over at Bluegrass.. DO NOT buy the 2003 black mica they have. its got 800 miles, been autocrossed, and reamed on since mile 1 pretty much. One of the hyundai techs next door is a good friend, and said its smoking al ittle bit..
I would go across town to Neil Huffman, or to Craig and Landreth in New Albany. They both have them in stock, and are much better to work with.
I hope you decide on the MSP.. the RSX is a very nice car, but for the money you'll save, the MSP will be faster and handle better than the RSX.
And the problems arent that bad..hesitation sucks, but can be fixed, and as long as you arent stupid and run too much boost, you'll be fine..

PM me, and we can meet up and i'll show you my ride, or you can check out pics in the showroom section of www.502streetscene.com, or at the meets, im usually out on friday and saturday nights..

Keep us posted, on your decision... good luck!

i think that for the price that the speeds are going for right now, it cant be beat. And buying a mbc for around 40 bucks, the power increase is supposed to be a huge difference. I would go mazdaspeed.

yea i wasnt lookin at the black 2003. i was lookin at the titanium 03.5. but it has like 140 miles which isnt bad, even though if i buy a new car, i want it to be NEW. every new car on a lot has pretty much been shitted out since mile one.

but if u have the black one with the silver stickers, ive seen u before. u autocrossed at ups one time when i autocrossed. sweet car.

but anyways, i went to both places today. type s is faster, but the msp is a pretty fun car. cheaper, much lower payments, (acura wants 3,000 for TTL), im so torn right now. i was so positive i wanted a type s, then the msp came into my life and i dont know what to do.

but if there are a lotta problems that are gonna cause me some headaches down the road, please tell me now and ill get rid of the msp idea.

I totally understand how it is SO hard to decide. Here's my opinion:

The MSP is an AWESOME deal right now with the 1500 rebate. For the price, you cannot find a more complete car. But having said that, the problems it has ARE a pain in the arse and, lets face it, the car runs ultra-ultra-super rich, which is NOT good for an engine. Therefore, unless Mazda gets off their ass and fixes it, don't expect the car to last 100s of thousands of miles like the Acura probably will. I also agree with a few of the other suggestions in this thread - which is, if you're thinking about getting an RSX-S you'd be better of spending 2 more payments to get a WRX. The WRX is just....better.

All in all, I love my MSP..........and hate it too. .....since you have the money, I'd go with something else.

Nope, not me with the silver stickers, but i have heard of him around town.

As far as the RSX being faster, the MSP is much more easily made faster than the RSX, since its turbo, and you can safely make some easy hp with a boost controller, and boost gauge.
Plus, the MSP handles much better than the RSX, the factory system is awesome, the rims are awesome, so there goes money saved on those...

As far as problems..MSPs are somewhat tempermental, but the main hesitation problem is fixable for 25 bucks, or just wait on mazda's fix, hopefully soon.
Other issues i think are car to car, pretty much like any car. a few will have problems, a few will not. Ive had mine for 10 days, and while i do have some hesitation, everything else is great!

Id say save the money and get the MSP, then reinvest what you saved, and go race an RSX.... he paid the same as you did after all.. and watch his face as you walk away.... 3-4k will set u up VERY nicely to run well into the 13's in the MSP... Intake, FMIC, full exhaust, nice gauges, boost controller, joe's fpr, and fcd. And that right there wont get you over 2000... and tuned safely on a dyno, is enough to run 13's all day long.. with the extra money, throw in some forged rods and pistons, or engine management... and the fun really begins..
But hey, thats my opinion. Drive both cars, and if you like one over the other.. thats what you should get...

My best friend owns a 2003 RSX-S. He took my car for a drive and said it handles ALOT better, and feels just as fast as his. Heck even the new Sport Compact Car says that the RSX is .1 sec in the 0-60 and .1 sec in the 1/4 mile, so even in a race, it can come down to all driver. And to top it all off, my friend paid 26k for the RSX-S with all the options, I paid 18.5k, and with the money I saved, I can buy stuff to make it so my car easily whoops his ass :D I saved $600 bucks on insurance over my honda civic because this car is a 4 door. I looked at the RSX-S also, and I still choose the MSP even with all the problems I read about here. After owning it for 3 weeks, verdict is still the same. I <3 my MSP!

i was gonna mention the article ********.. but you will notice it was 15.3, at 90, and 15.4 at 93.1 The rsx has more HP, and its shown in the higher trap speed. We make up for that with better launching with the LSD..
edit: rsx will win on the street from a dig.. but not by much..

acura....its more of a luxury brand, as much as i love the way mp3s p5s and msps look, id probably rather have the acura in the long run....the only thing with the acura is that the 2.0l putting out 200hp doesnt have a whole lot more power left without going forced induction

My dad is going to look at the RSX-S tomorrow, and he's running into the same problem. He wants a 2 door(so don' even talk about the WRX), but is having trouble deciding. I know they make a turbo kit for the RSX, but it's prob. running about 5g's...Too much for him to put out on a new car. I wish he would settle for a 4 dr. cause I would love to find him a WRX. His price range is hovering around $25,000...He also looked at the Audi's, but doesn't know enough about them to make a solid decision.

My personal opinion goes with the msp. I have the 2003.5 titanium one, and one of my good friends has a 2003 type s. We raced up one of the highways around Columbia, MD from a dead stop. It was a close race, but I still took him by a half car length with 1 extra person in my msp. I also like the upgraded clutch and tranny assembly that mazda put in the msp versus the stock of the type s.

The things I like about the rsx type s are, the interior is pretty nice, seats are awesome.... dash angles are pretty cool although the area around the gauge pod seems like it would be a b**** to clean, and finally the smooth shifting tranny on the type s.

Just my opinion on the car!

I'm from Columbia, MD. In fact I'm going there next weekend. It will be my first trip home since I got my car. I should probably go radar detector shopping before then.
