Rolled my fenders....

Well, not exactly. I took my ride into the shop that installed my Eibach Sportlines and they don't "roll" your fenders. Instead, they grind them down about 1 cm. My tires (stock) were rubbing against the fender whenever I had someone sitting in the back, so I decided to correct that by getting my rear fenders grinded down. (or ground down, whatever). So now my ride can go over speed bumps and fat people can sit in the back and I don't have to worry about my tires peeling on the highway.

One thing though. I'm afraid it's gonna rust, so what I'm gonna do is get some primer paint and cover up the exposed area.


Have any of you done that? The reason I didn't roll them instead was because I have seen some where the paint is peeled and that looks terrible.

What are your thoughts?
 
Eeeek i don't like the sounds of having your fenders """ground""" down... to me that sounds a lot worse then just a simple roll of the fenders. I think its almost a guarantee that your fenders will rust..

my shop did the same thing....trim is the new way to go now....roll is the old school way
i used some touch up paint...
 
Nothing wrong with cutting or grinding if the area is properly treated after so no rust forms.
PRimer is not a good idea if thats all you plan to apply..Primer actually will hold moisture and will cause it to rust faster.
Prime and seal it with some sort of paint.
 
ill leave my thoughts out about just grinding the fender down instead of rolling...

like forcefed said though, primer by itself will not prevent rust actually it can speed it up if left unpainted. get some primer and paint and do it right.
 
rolling is definitely the preferred method, but if possible wait until summer or at least warm the panel a little to prevent the pain from peeling or whatnot. Definitely treat/seal the area thats exposed
 
my doesnt rub or anyhting like it on the back wheels! but the front rubs nastyt and its starting ti grind down the plastic on the front fenders (only rubs on the top part meaning tires are too high...) any solutions? other than gettin smaller tires..
btw i have 225/45/18 thinkin of gettin 225/40/18 but i have no money...

I've got 235/40/18 on my RX8 wheels (along with the Cobb springs), and I have no problems with rubbing at all.

how much of a drop do you have with the cobb spirngs? do u have a MS3? or regular? (sorry didnt look at the sig...)
my drop is a 2" front and 1.5"rear..

That explains the diff between our situations. I only have about an inch drop all the way around.
 
I'd treat them with something like POR-15. You can google it but it's far superior in preventing corrosion then just regular primer and paint. When people are restoring a car they'll generally use POR-15 as an undercoating. You can even put it over an already rusted area to stop the rust from spreading.

Wow, I'm running 245/45/17's front and 235/45/17's in the back. No rubbing that I've seen or heard. I'd say the most weight I've had in the back seat is probably 200lbs though.
