The double dip definitely paid off for you, we could see your laps times improving. Great job on your first year. Its a shame with the popularity B-Spec has had in WC this year they could not make a class at the Runoffs. Very disappointing to see the backdoor method of getting "Championship" status.:( I got the call right on the Mini for the win, just not the right one. Never heard why neither of the Davis guys showed up, missed seeing the H Prod Mini.

Insane amount of carnage this year, our car need both ends - which means the B-Spec car is getting chopped up for parts - was lucky to finish with the front bashed in and the engine overheating.

So is it STL with a swap or HP next year? ;) We should have an entry in each class.

Yeah, signing up Mark was the only way to get 10 cars in the field. Robbie had something work related come up which kept him from the runoffs which sucked.

If Joel had not had the steering wheel come off in his hands I think it would have been really close as to who won the race.

I am not sure what I am doing next year with extra time or classes. An HP Mazda 2 would be fun.

The steering wheel coming off is near the top of the list of things that can go wrong. lol

Do it. Gordon Jones was talking about dusting off his BMW and running next year, so you would have a local fast guy to race with. Just imagine what dropping 450lbs would do for your car. :)

Can you explain? Lost in translation.

In the registration we had 10 cars signed up which is the minimum to have a national championship race. Robbie Davis was not able to make it in his mini which left us with 9 cars racing for nothing. Someone "loaned" a B-Spec to Mark Boden of Fall Line which just had to turn a qualifying lap to count as an entry and make 10 cars to make the race a championship again. When we started there was only 9 cars who took the green.

The field for B-Spec in World Challenge being so large and the amount of B-Spec cars in club racing being so small it is weird. I think it is most club racers do not take apart brand new cars to go racing, they are more budget oriented.

Just to expound a little more on Derricks explanation... Unlike the Solo Nationals you have to race your way into the Runoffs, its not hard, in most classes four natl race finishes get you an invite. The exception to the rule is defending champs get an automatic invite. And this year for the 50th they gave an invite to any past champ (who could pass the medical and hold a license) to run in any class they wanted. The cutoff for people using the provisional entry was Aug 23rd, and regular registration closed on Sept 9th. Boden was not entered in B-Spec at that time. The real rub here comes from the fact that Boden jumped into the car of another competitor that was already in B-Spec, there is no car sharing in Club Racing - kind of hard for two people to run the same race in the same car. This is a clear indicator to me that there was no intention of making the class hit its number for the race. I was shocked that the stewards let this happen.

This is the third year for B-Spec, although first for it to run as its own class and crown a "champion", it is dead last in national participation and could not field 10 cars at an event with over 700 entries. It is looking pretty clear that the $25k cost of entry to be the slowest class on the track is not appealing to most Club level guys. It is an excellent value for Pro Racing, especially since they cut the entry fee for TCB in World Challenge, but the formula is not attracting Club guys. I was a little surprised to see a lack of Pro teams offering rental rides to Club guys, seems like a great way to supplement your budget between races. At the Runoffs you could take your pick of SM or SRF rental rides if yours broke, or you just wanted a better prepared car, but not a single spare WC TCB car to be seen.

Lol, yeah I just saw the email with the schedule. I am looking at an ex grand-am Mazdaspeed 3 to maybe run in STU as well next year. I just need to make up my mind and budget.

My videos were screwed up. The setting was wrong on the smarty cam :( I had some great stuff too of the wrecks all week.

Thanks for stopping by at the pits. How did the race look from your corner station?

Hey no problem glad you had a sucessfull weekend. I was on the outside of 12 for your B-spec race. it looked good. You were starting to catch the b-spec in front of you but just couldn't reel them in. Overall it was a memorable 50th. Should be fun next year at laguna.
