Anyone on the forums here going to be at Road America for the runoffs of live around there? I will be there the week of Sept 16th to the 22nd (the day of the B-Spec and T4 race).

Are you racing the 2? I am interested on your thoughts of the track with that low HP of a car. I know that Road America is a really popular track, and I have never been there, but when I have seen videos and played it in games it doesn't seem like that exciting of a track in a slower car like b-spec or a spec Miata. The second half after the carousel seems like fun, but the rest seem pretty simple and plain.

Probably is just me.

probably just me since I haven't been there yet. Most people would think that Roebling Road doesn't look like a fun track, but it very much is.

Best of luck to you guys if your running.

I am racing the 2 in the B-Spec race. Looking at the track there are a few spots which I think I can take flat out due to the lower speeds of the B-Spec cars. It will be fun regardless.

I am debating entering the 2 in the STL class as well to get the extra track time. I wouldn't be in the race though, you have to be within a certain speed of the fastest car of you don't make the cut (like F1)

Curious what tires you will be running at the Nationals? Are these treaded? Don't run slicks in T4/B-Spec do you? Same ones or replacements used during the season. What type of tire life expectancy do you have? (Hours? Minutes? Seconds?) And what tire pressures?

I would be shocked if they actually enforced that rule, I have never seen it used at the Runoffs - sure its in the sups, but unless you are making yourself a hazard it wont be an issue. Plus, at 115% you can run about 20-25sec off the pace in most classes because the track is so big. In 2012 STL Qual at a 2:35.7, with B-Spec at a 2:54.5, which is right around 112%.

Nice thing about two entries is you will get double the tow money.

I will be running BFG R1S tires which is the same thing I run all season which is a DOT slick. The tires hold up well on the 2, I am running the same set of BFGs for 3 race weekends now which is coming up on 20+ cycles. The run time from practice/qualifying/racing on each day is around 1.5 hours. This varies some since I double dip some weekends and run STL for more track time and to bump up the # of cars in the class.

Pressures vary on the track temps, I normally run a front to rear differential of 4-5 psi more in the rear.

Interesting idea on the tow money, I will have to look at that.

I put in the question to the SCCA about it, we shall see what they say. If I do run STL I can mess with the car which is nice, intake, some aero changes, etc. Nothing to crazy but I can speed up the car somewhat.

Any idea how many other B-spec cars are entered?

3 so far but the last SCCA Majors event still hasn't completed for the mid states and northern regions. That is going down this weekend.

I expect there to be about 10 of us. Since we are running with T4 there should be the look of a mostly full field, lol.

No reason to even think about it, or ask, just do it. Lots of people double or triple dip for the tow money - basically covers your entry fee making for a free practice. SM guys run STL for extra seat time, and because the Mazda tow fund is better for STL. Watch the 2012 STO race, where the SSB V6 Mustangs were filling the class. ;) The nice guys pulled in once they started to get lapped. There are a lot of basket case STL cars out there, there is a good chance you would not be the slowest car.

The only challenge you have is time... You could end up with just a few hours between races. Things like weight and an intake would be easy, changing a out a hot exhaust would not be fun, but a header sure could help you get up the hill.

I'm glad you chimed in. The SCCA does pay for each class would works out for me, more track time and part of the cost of a set of tires I will tear up. There is a 2 hour break between STL and B-Spec so I should be able to run both without much of a problem. I think I will only do the easy to swap bolt on since I am there to win the B-Spec race.

Air dam could help top speed. Pre-fab something that bolts on/off easy.

I will put our aluminum skid tray on the clean up the aero under the front of the car but it does not extend out past the front of the car. I think I will see what I can get made on a waterjet machine from some FRP to extend out a bit. I need to confirm how far the rules allow for STL.
