Replacing the headunit??

has anyone changed out the stock Kenwood deck? just wondering how its wired from the back....i.e. rca's and does it have a sub out there already? I'm gonna put the my Pioneer 8400 in if it does, and has anyone changed out the 8" sub/amp with a better one? I would like to keep the stock 'shelf 'unit b/c it leaves some trunk room and the 2 10's I had in the P5 really weighed down the back....hopefully its not wired all crappy stock oem style....

thanks for the suggestions/tips!

I just had my head unit out this week to install my Sirius radio and they did a good job on the wiring! It's very neat but really short !It's hard to get out of the dash unless you go in from behind through where the glovebox is.Other than that its all good. Why change this head unit its a very nice piece IMO but it is your car? This unit has almost everthing you could want in a head unit!4.5V pre outs ,3 pre-outs,decent display, the buttons and operations are a pain to get used to but all in all its nice!

yeah, its an okay deck...but have you seen the pioneer 8400? i paid like $600 for that thing...i'd hate to get rid of it...plus it does a lot more than the kenwood...oh and i'm not sure if it has the sub pre-out neither

The Ken wood unit does about all of it!I know it will suit me fine and i'm real picky on my audio but hey if you like Pioneer then thats cool too!The kenwood does have a sub out .Thats what runs the sub,it's called a NF(non fading)pre-out.The sub control can be accesed through the main menu for sub volume control!

I've got the 8400 in my MSP...I didn't care for the way the flap on the deck covered the pocket, however, so I swapped their locations...I put the deck on the bottom, and the pocket up on top. Now I can access the pocket easily to get my sunglasses(which wouldn't fit with the deck flap open), and see my TT. My boost controller will be housed in there soon as well. Since you need the 8400's flap open to access the audio controls(and visuals), I decided the swap was the best way to have both visible at all times.

(protest) (wrong)
Are you all trying to take my job again?
:D
