Replacing POS5

From the report of the adjuster who did the work for the arbitration board.

1) Yes the transmission has been replaced.

2) Yes I was able to duplicate the shifting from 5th to reverse.

3) Tommy has mentioned a redesign to the lock out plate and spring assembly, a check of the serial number and research would be carried out to see if the new transmission has these updates. It would still appear that the lock out of this transmission has faulted in comparison to the dealer supplied test vehicle.

4) The consumer does not appear to be abusive in his driving of the vehicle, the vehicle is clean and he appears quite conscientious in it's overall treatment (locks vehicle eveytime he steps away, even at the dealer), places vehicle in gear and sets handbrake before shutting off vehicle and exiting).

its funny how you guys are so willing to rip a guy for wanting a new car...whether the damage was his fault or not he obviously is having problems...if had the money to buy a new car i probably would too....not that there is anything wrong with my car but change is good, all he's doing is lookin for opinions on a new ride, obviously he is gonna pick what he wants but since when has it been wrong to get opinions from others on this forum...this kinda s*** kills me about this forum

The same could be said about the Protege series. Different strokes for different folks. I would be happy with either one. All I am saying is if one came out alitttle sooner I would have a different car. I got my P5 and love it, and I got an Evo and would still have an Ralliart parked next to my Evo if I could.

The 3 cars, I listed above are all in the same price range, 22-23k Canadian..

Legacy GT is a bigger car, and is about 5k more, with the same engine as impreza rs. If I go bigger, than I start to look at the altima, and the accord.

My first choice would be the Impreza RS then the Civic Si. The Lancer Ralliart is nothing to write home about, unelss they've majorly overhauled it in the last few years. Besides Mitsubishi's have a reputation for bad electrical systems -- probably the most difficult problem to diagnose and fix in a car. That's just my experience from what I've read and heard over the years.

I'd go with the Impreza and mod it as your budget allowed, but it's not a terribly slow car in stock form.

What? The car's only been in production for like a year.

peabody, the Legacy GT is the turbocharged 2.5 liter engine, as oposed to the 2.5 liter NA in the impreza. The GT makes nearly 100 more horsepower than the RS. I admit the price is higher, but it's such a wicked car. It's refined, handls well, etc. If I had a choice, I'd take the higher payment hit of the Legacy, but that's just me.

For around $20k, I would go with a used WRX, or buy an older Si (99-00) and drop a k20 in it with the money you saved. The Evo is the only mitsu car I would buy nowadays. It's sad cause I used to love almost everything they made, but they've really just gone to s*** in the last few years.

ps. just because someone has driven a certain amount of time does NOT mean you know how to drive correctly...also i've never had problems with the 5th to reverse, although i've never tried it nor "accidentaly" shift from 5th to reverse(however that happens haha) so i guess it doesn't apply here.

also about the cars, if you are having problems with a mazda tranny, might want to stay away from a wrx...just a thought

Ive done it once accidentally...forgot what gear i was in and thought my RPMs were sounding to high, tried to find my magical 6th gear and all i got was lousy grinding. Gee, i should get Mazda to get me 3 new trannys because of my mistake.

i say go w/ an Impreza. i had one before my P5 and regret selling it. but if i sell my P5 im going to get a DSM...

true it is a little bigger car (the p5 wasn't exactly a small car though), but the extra 100hp makes it way more fun i drove a gt limited a few weeks ago, very nice, very torquey, def. a good car all around. it comes standard with a lot more things that a 2.5rs, so you're gonna get more for your money, but it is still going to be more expensive. they're doing low interest financing now, at least in the US, but the 2.5rs probably has the same thing, and you can probably get either for invoice. i'd at least give one a test drive while you're checking out the 2.5rs or maybe a forester xt, same basic 2.5l turbo motor, a little less power, but the utility of the 4 door, and a bit cheaper, still more than an impreza though.
i can't really think of any other cars in your price range that are fun to drive, so i'd probably say the impreza from the given choices if you want to stay with a new car

I'm pretty sure that's because people who have a WRX obviously like to drive it hard because of all that power it has. But they also don't realize the WRX is a AWD car. If you drive a 2wd car, you all know it's silly to have your 2 wheels spinning but you're not going anywhere when you're trying that 1/4 mile. For the WRX, it has less tire spin and people think they can launch them from much higher RPMs than 2wd cars.

So when they have that much power and drop the clutch on a AWD, there is not gonna be much wheel spin, and the tranny/clutch takes in all that power. And I'm sure after a few high RPM launches, some of them will destroy the stock clutch (saying the stock clutch sucks and all that crap) and go buy a beefier aftermarket clutch that does not slip as much. And now even MORE power is transferred to the tranny...

boom!
