Replacement parts needed for wheel bearing?

Wheel bearings going doesn't SOUND like metal on metal. Sounds like really loud wind / road noise.

In that case, how come the wheel doesn't show any play when I jack up my car and push and pull on it?

It doesn't necessarily have to have play, but most of the time it does. When one of my wheel bearings went bad it actually made a clicking sound. The sound only happened when I drove straight or was turning one direction. It drove me nuts for two weeks trying to figure out what it was. I ended up replacing an axle, replacing a axle bearing behind the engine, taking apart the brakes and inspected the whole steering and suspension system. I did all this because I was convinced it could not be a wheel bearing since it did not make the sound I was used to when wheel bearings go bad. In the end my friend showed me a trick with using a screwdriver against the strut and keeping your ear to the handle part of it and listening for a odd sound. You could hear that there was a distinct grinding sound compared to the other good bearing.

I never said the noise you were hearing WAS the wheel bearing. I just said it could be. Without examining the thing myself I would have no way of knowing. Forgive me, I'll try to be less helpful next time

I never said your piece of advice didn't help me one bit. So please, don't apologize (usa). If you read it right, I was just asking if there was still a possibility that I have bad bearings even though my wheels don't have any play, since I hear loud road noise/a loud whirring sound when I drive.

MP3Perfomance on the other hand, thanks for answering my question. I'll probably just bring my car in to get it checked.
