regular protege motor

are you wondering about fitment or something? did your motor blow? tell us more. it can be done.

ya blew the old motor and mazdaspeed motors are really hard to come by.
i have heard a lot about that there same motor besides the support plate and the oil return line.
mazda is kinda sketchy about swapping in a regular protege motor.
just wondering what exactly needs to be done to swap them

depends if you are boosting it or not. but it's the SAME MOTOR use the spare parts from the blown one and fully make it all work. it's not that had, do it yourself dealer will **** your asshole for money and they probably won't even do it right.

ya im reboosting it.
i wish i could do it myself but i dont have the right stuff to do it.
so if i am boosting the protege motor do i just need to swap the support plate and the oil return line?
or is there more?

By support plate you mean the upper oil pan right, where the oil feed comes from, if you have that and it's not damaged from the old motor then you are golden, other than that, it's the same 2.0 motor and there is nothing special about it, may I suggest letting a mom and pop shop do it, it's way cheaper, where are you located, we might be able to point you to a great shop in your area.

also if you do this dont foget your valve cover on the mazdaspeed has holes for the plastic cover so if u want that still, swap that too. and make sure that whoever does it swaps over everything!! i had mine done and they forgot the valve cover and they forgot my factory bpv and i have been S.O.L. ever since! i even blew my turbo due to that!!

i already took my valve cover off my old one so when i get my car back im swapping it over.
the one thing im worried about is them hooking all my aftermarket stuff back on right.
can you use the regular protege oil pan?
not the plate with the oil return line it but the actual oil pan.
my old one can bent when my motor blew a hole out the side

thats a good q... it sounds feasible since they are essentially the same motor except for the return lines and turbo goodies. hmm.... i'd wait till you get one of the major players to answer that. there is a guy on here who'd know for sure and i'll try to pm him.

k his names Mazdaspeed20035. ask him... he seems really knowledgeable about the speed pro motor.

hey i new i just wondering were i could find a motor for my mazdaspeed protege. i blew it racing a bmw m3. i knew i wasnt going to win but it was fun. so can u guy help me.

penny, where are you located??

there's a bunch of people on here that know a lot about the motors.. if you start posting, you might find some people close to you that know a lot too. that would come over and help you.. I charge a fee for use at my shop, but i may or may not be close.. who knows..

the motor is exactly the same internally except the trans cooler and the windage tray..

it's an easy swap. i could prolly do it in a day.. i've had my motor in and out so many god damn times..

i'm not 100%, but i believe you can use the stock oil pan.. either way, if your motor is still in your car.. pull the oil pan, windage tray, and the oil cooler off yourself.. swap them over(out of the car).. and then put the motor in..
