Redline issues?

Ok, So.

First off to anyone who may be thinking, I was NOT "racing" last night...but...

I was entering a rural part of an interstate last night (no traffic) and was getting rather annoyed with the riced out golf ahead of me running low gear on the on ramp and rattling my bones with exhust vibration so I go to pass him on the left when I hit the highway WOT in 3rd. He seems to think its a challenge and gunns it as well, I got distracted by his not-letting-me-get-by driving style and forget to shift...again, I'm not a racer. I could hear it wasn't any ordinary golf because I could hear his BOV as he punched it and rowed through the gears. Anywho...

When I look down at the tach, the needle is AT redline WOT...it wasnt "jumping" up and down, but was definatly maxed out...it couldnt have been there more than a second or two but still, shees my baby. (nailbyt)

Question 1: do you think the fuel got cut off?

Question 2: what kind of damage could this one incident have done to my baby's internals?

On a side note: should I have shifted like he was he woulda gotten smoked!(drive)
