THINKING ABOUT THE FORGE BPV....+PG TURBO INLET....

IS IT WORTH IT NOW TO GET A BPV?--FOR MORE CONSISTENT PERFORMANCE?

I LIVE WHERE THERE EMISSION STANDARDS SO NO TEST PIPES OR CATLESS PIPES FOR ME(laugh)

More consistent? You're guessing. Get a boost gauge (cheap) or a Dash Hawk (far more versatile, but more $$$). Check your boost. If you are not leaking, you get absolutely no gain from an aftermarket BPV. I'm still running stock BPV with my mods in sig. It's solid as a rock.

Then get an intake if you don't have one already. That's a 20 whp mod. Best bang for the buck by far.

Cobb Intake-----------------$175
Forge BPV-------------------$160
Corksport Rear MM inserts----$35
Shifter bushings -------------$25

Total------------------------$395

Best bang for the buck.

Where the stock BPV fails is holding boost between shifts. The forge is very good at holding that boost, pent up and ready for the next gear. Find someone that has one and drive their car.

How can you hold boost between shifts? That's when a BPV vents back to the intake to prevent compressor surge.

So I'm doing 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, 13.4 sec. (best) typical 13.5 second quarters at 106-107, 0-100 in 11.5 seconds. This is on stock tires, stock tune. What am I missing in my BPV?

Here's some data logging on hp v. time. Sharp short vertical lines are artifact and should be disregarded. Note how ECU holds back power in first and second, and note how aerodynamic drag pulls down power in higher gears.

My point is that in third, before drag takes over, the engine immediately hits its hp peak of about 265 whp just as soon as the shift is completed.

When I had my stock BPV in, I never saw more than 13.2-13.5 lbs of boost on the Dashhawk. Slapped a Forge in its place, and I now spike to 16+ on occasion, and see 15 lbs all the time. Guessing my stocker was leaky or something.

Point well taken. Some leak. Some do not. I'm looking at possibly getting the new Turbosmart pure BPV, just for reliability, even though I hold boost fine. I just don't want it to ping, pong, quack or make other "cute" "look at me" sounds (no offense, it's just me). Stealth all the way here.
