Recommend Shift Knob Replacement/Vendor?

Hey all,

The fake chrome on my shift knob (manual transmission) has started to peel, so I'm looking to replace it. With the following requirements, can you link me to one that you recommend?

1) Some type of forged metal, nothing with the same kind of "fake chrome" on it.
2) No LEDs.
3) Should be all metal, no colored accents. (if there are leather accents, should match the beige interior)
4) I'd like it to have the shift pattern on top. (but not a plastic insert showing the pattern, it should be engraved into the metal)
5) Simple appearance. (no fancy holes or patterns, manufacturer logo is OK)
6) Doesn't have to be some popular brand name.
7) Shouldn't cost a billion dollars.

I've tried searching for some, but I can't quite find what I'm looking for, nor do I know of the best places to shop for this kind of thing...I just got my Proteg on Saturday.

Thanks,
Matthew

I would say a kartboy or greddy counterwright:

Google VooDoo shift knobs. Very nice billet shift knobs, small or large sphere, or cylinder style. No set screws so they are perfect fit and you can look to knobmeister.com for engraving on the knob of whatever you want.
The Miata guys have been using these for years.

Yeah, I have a VooDoo and love it. I've tried tons of universal fit shift knobs and they all end up loosening up. The VooDoo ones just thread right on and have a good clean OEM feel. Nice weight to them too. Also, I beleive they will engrave or laser etch the knobs for you too for a few extra bucks.

kartboy shifters look nice ... if you want some weight, they have some heavy shift knobs.

I used the Kartboy one for about a year... I recently changed back to a Nokya carbon fiber one. It works better w/ the shift boot I have now and matches better with the other carbon fiber interior pieces.

The one I use has a gunmetal top and bottom, looks pretty good... Not as ricey as I thought it would. I also have a matching ebrake handle (right picture above).

The Kartboy and Nokya type knobs are completely different, but I don't know if I prefer one over the other when it comes to usability.

The good thing about Kartboy is it is threaded metal on metal, as where 'universal' knobs are not as secure. I have never had an issue with the DIY threaded nylon insert, but I plan on having this Nokya knob fitted with a threaded insert for safety purposes. I will never use the set screw type knob again. That's such a bad design. All of Momo's knobs that I know of use that design for mounting.

I'll get some pictures of everything once I am compactly done...

i've got that nokya knob (got it free from a raffle, thanks dgm!). my only problem with it is that the recesses at the top for the screws kinda dig into my palm. i ended up filling those in with filler and painting all the chrome black. although, it's much better now, i find the stock knob (02.5+) perfect for me. now if my greddy fit my kartboy ss, i'd be a happy camper, but for some reason, it doesn't.

i have the stock mp3/ stock msp/ kartboy /and greddy counterweight. Get the Greddy. Best of the bunch and looks great. Feels great in the hand too.
