rear visibility and blindspots on the CX-5?

I mitigated the rear vision problem by replacing the OEM NA rear outboard head restraints with a pair ordered from a Mazda dealer in Australia. The outside NA OEM versions fit down over the seat back and need to be manually raised to be effective. The NA version sits atop the seat back and although never requiring adjustment for safety, are otherwise constantly in the way. I seldom carry rear seat passengers so the trade-off works for me.

I too ordered new headrests for the backseat.

I’ve been running round in late model Mitzi Outlander and RAV Hybrid for a couple of months. The CX-5 eclipses them in most aspects including rear vision and rear window fouling.

I have no visibility issues on my 16 with stock headrests. How much do you need to see? Or maybe it's my now infamous driving style: when you're quickly passing everyone, you don't need to see much behind you. [emoji23][emoji23]

Yeah compare your rear view visibility and mine and see for yourself ⋯ ;)

I really hate both sides of rearview mirror image on CX-5 are blocked by the rear seat headrests. I went ahead purchased a pair of non-US spec, low-profile rear seat headrests at a Mazda dealer during the recent trip to Taipei. It cost me USD $96.52 for a pair. Once I got back and tried them on, I feel that the money was well spent! I'm very happy to have these low-profile headrests and now I can see a full view of the back window from rearview mirror! What a safety improvement to us!

There's no question those headrests are better. I am just saying, I can see traffic behind me just fine as is.
Hell if you are going to get headrests that low, that no longer do the job of protecting the rear occupants head in a collision, why not just remove them altogether? :D

My previous ride was a 2002 Subaru Forester -- essentially a rolling fishbowl.

I thought my '17 CX-5 would be like riding in a deer blind by comparison, but in practice, I'm not really having visibility issues. The visibility out the front is sufficient and the rear view camera and BSMS keep tabs on the rest. Having the HUD keeps my eyes up and on the road more than in the Subie as well.
