Rear Ended

:
'06 5, '04 WRB WRX
The unfortunate happened. Yesterday afternoon, my wife was driving on a regular blvd./Ave. . Vehicle in front of her stopped abruptly, She stopped before hitting him, car behind her was coming at a good speed then BAM! Not sure what the damage to the 5 is as they had it towed to a garage but my wife said it was pretty bad ( no front end damage, just rear). Good thing the other driver gave her all her info despite the confusion and situation. Ambulance came and took her to nearest emergency room. Luckily all tests and scans were negative but she's so sore all over I have to help her walk and get up.
Now to work on the insurance company and see what's up. I'll keep you guys up to date. :( :(

ouchawawa man.... ya keep us posted on things... am curious how the 5 really faired... that 3rd row being close to the rear worries me a lil.

Sorry 2cam16. Good thing wife seems to be OK though, it is all that matters at the end.

As a youngster my sis and I used to beat the crap out of our car often, including some "major" accidents. The workshop owner used to tell us: "twisted metal and broken plastic, oh those things can be eventually repaired, as for you, not so sure... so good thing you are all right". True (well, we were the guy's top customers anyway, he couldn't afford losing us :D)

Good luck

Hope your wife is feeling better soon :). I am also curious as to how the rear end handled the hit, my kids sit back there from time to time. Keep us updated if you can. Thanks.

Thanks all. The 5 should be taken today to the body shop we chose. Unfortunately the accident happened about 30 miles from home then the holiday weekend so the transportation of the 5 took a bit. I'll take pics when I go check it out.
The wife is doing better. Still sore here and there. Our insurance company has been pretty good so far. First time dealing with them. Corteus and prompt phone calls. They covered us $25/day for rental so today we went to pick-up a car and got upgraded to a Chevy Uplander for no extra charge. Cool we still have a spacious vehicle. :)
Will let you know how it goes.

Progressive is the BEST hands down, they covered my dads Audi when an UN licensed driver took it for a "spin", got the payoff in a few days, no increase in the Premium either, and that was after I had an accident on the policy 3 months ago, we do have like 6 cars on that policy though, Glad everyone is OK, got any pics of the damage?

Sorry to hear that, Rob. Hope your wife get well soon.

This also proves MZ5s have excellent brakes.

Thanks again, all.
Raspy- Our insurance company is MetLife only because I have payroll auto deduct and they gave us a better price (same coverage) compared to Farmer's which we were with for almost 17 years.
We just got back from the body shop. Looked over the 5 with the body shop rep and from what he and I saw, it looks like only the bumper skin. The beam behind it looks fine, nothing else around looked damaged. I'd like to read the police report (we should be getting it in a few days) and see the lady's estimate speed when she hit my wife. Judging from what my wife told me and how the 5 looks, it seems Mazda has a good safety system in terms of a rear-ender.
Let's hope the skin and other small parts are easy to get but I doubt it since 5's don't seem to have a large volume nor is it manufactured here in the US.
Here are the pics:

Updates to follow..............

2 cam,
I would be looking at the rear hatch. In your third pick it does not seem to be lining up with either the quarter panel or the taillight. If possible, have another body shop look at it, especially if you are at one of the body shops your insurance company "prefers". Hope everything is getting better for your wife, my wife went through a similar hit and it took about two weeks, but everything ended up working out in the end.

I concur...

Yeah you can see an abnormal space right about the Mazda 5 logo in the thrid pict

Good catch, guys. Duly noted with the service advisor at the body shop. They will be doing a full estimate anyway.
As to how good and thorough they are, we shall see. Besides, this will DEIFNITELY be coming out of the pockets of the lady that hit my wife.

Sorry to hear about it.

And I also think Mazdas are pretty safe. I got rear ended in my MS6 by a guy in a GM Envoy doing 60km/h without braking and my rear end was totaled but my rear seats and what not held up very well. Only really bad thing was the rear window exploding. Car was a write off but I wasn't hurt at all.

Yeah Volvo has a hand in Mazda crashworthiness

Yet another benefit of Mazda and Volvo being under the Ford umbrella. It's well documented that Volvo handled crashworthiness on the 3 platform- whihc is what the 5 also rides on.

She's Back!

Got it today. Good job by the body shop. Perfect fit.

It's nice to see the 5 back home ! (headbang)

Forgot to add: My wife spoke to the officer who investigated her accident and it turns out the lady who hit her was a) going around 35 mph and ...here's the kicker, what I hate the most b) ON HER FREAKIN' CELL PHONE!!
She's going to pay for this, big time.
