Really really mad!!!

Ok, I went to have my summer tires swapped with the snows and mounted on the original rims a couple of months ago. When I looked at the summers as they were sitting in my car before I went in, and noticed a nail head sticking out of the tread. I told my service guy when I went in, and he wrote it down. Fine, end of story, right?

Wrong.

Two days ago, I noticed a nasty vibration in the wheel. Looked at the tire the next morning, and it's almost flat! Had my boyfriend bring it into a nearby shop this morning to plug it (I get to work too early), and they said there's a nail in it that punctured the sidewall! Looks like Mazda never took out the damn nail two months ago!!

I called my service guy at the dealership, told him the story, and he said they'd have to look at it before they could tell me if I'm getting the new tire for free/discount/whatever. Parts told me the new tire would be $155, plus $15 for mounting/balancing plus tax! Tire Rack has it for $116 including shipping!!!!

Here's my idea. I go to the dealer, bring the dead tire, have them look at it, and tell me if I get it for free or discount. If they say yes, I order the tire, la de da. If no, I tell them to screw themselves, and order off the tire rack, and have my friend mount and balance, or bring it to Town Fair or something. What do you think??

the dealership will always mark up their prices on tires, if they don't take care of it go to the tire rack--

Screw that!
If they don't take care of it tell them you are going to file a complaint with the better buisness bureau about the issue and talk to the manager on duty of the dealership.

OK that being said.
This sounds like a differnet nail.
If the original was in the tread and this on punctured the side wall then it is unlikely the same one. Did it even look the same?
Not to mention its possible to pivk up more then 1. Hell I had 7 in one of my tires before!

Sounds like a good plan. (2thumbs)

I can't stand lackluster dealerships, and my dealership's one of the worst. I knew more about the Protege5 than the salesman who was trying his best to get me to buy it. A few weeks later, it took the parts people 45 minutes to figure out the prices for the roof filler strips and mp3 struts/swaybars.

How the conversation began:

"Hey, I'd like to find out how much a set of MP3 struts and swaybars cost."

"... what's an MP3? you mean the mini-van?"

::sigh::

This nail is in the left front tire, and that was one of the 2 tires that had a nail when I brought them in to be rotated. The two tires with more tread were put on the front. I just believe it was more likely that they never removed the nail.

It seemed pretty well lodged when I first saw it months ago, and didn't seem to be losing air (these were just brought out of storage at the time), so you would think it would have been going flat before last winter, but it wasn't. I think it was all the driving that maybe lodged it further into the tire. Either way, if it was that nail, it should have been taken out and plugged. Grrrr.

BTW, it was in the tread of the tire, towards the side. The garage my bf brought it to said it went into the sidewall. He thinks maybe perhaps that this place (today) might have pushed it into the sidewall by accident. (oops). BUT, that nail should not have been in the tire to begin with.

They'll probably say that it isn't the same nail and they're most likely right. If you've been driving around with that same nail in the tire, the head would be almost completely worn down. Check it and see. What kind of tire is it that you're replacing? A stock tire shouldn't cost that much money. As for contacting the better business bureau...I'd say wait and don't be so quick to discredit a business without having proof that they really screwed up and are unwilling to work with ya. Let's face it, there's just some people out there looking for freebies and businesses are all too aware of it.

It's the stock Dunlop Sport 5000M. I'll go check it out. I could be totally wrong, but I'd like to know. I don't want to think that they screwed up, since I like the service I get. I just couldn't let it go unnoticed or unquestioned. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. No biggie. I just don't need this aggravation. Blah. :(

hahaha true that true that... went in w/ my friend to test out the MSP.. asked them bout the engine... and they said there's no turbo in the canadian verson  :wtf: :bs: saying it's only boosted up to 170hp.. hahahaha... i was like.. err.. o.. k.. hahahaha... funny stuff

Tirerack has the stock tire for $104 not $116. At leas yesterday they did.

FIRST OFF...this post is about TIRES!!! SO WHERE DOES IT BELONG? how about in the TIRE FORUM.....geeeez.

but to your question....if the nail damaged the side wall FROM THE INSIDE....and the nail is still in the tire and you can say for sure its at least in the same location as the last time you saw it....get the dealer to replace the tire...and pitch a b**** if they won't.
