last night i saw a black civic si race a z28 camaro. and the out come was pretty bad. now i dont know if he just couldn't race or what but that civic left him pretty bad and he was trying to catch the civic and finally did after about 4 blocks. now how can we mp3 racers achieve this with some mods or what????and what are they??? thanks

We can beat Z28's as soon as someone makes a good turbo kit. The civic prolly had a turbo, supercharger, or some enigine mods and NOS. Look at it this way. I have an Integra LS. Stock HP is rated at 140, just like our MP3. It is faster than the MP3 stock cause the LS has alot of torque. Anyway, I just put a Gen Drag 3 turbo kit on it. Cost $3300, came with everything, even a front mount intercooler. Haven't dyno'd it yet, but some of my online buddies have got 265 HP @ the wheels with just the turbo kit. I am beating Z28's now with it. ~265 @ the wheels with the Integra's tranny (LS is geared really low) is a great combo. Next I am gonna get a 50 shot of NOS and I expect to be beating SS's and Cobras.

So to answer your question, we need forced induction.

so basically with this turbo kit we will be able to push more than 200 hp? wow that sounds tight. i just started into the fast car scene i used to be just the tight car roller just cruising but now i see that this is getting old and im into the new now. but with this would we need to upgrade alot in our engine and stuff??

That's somewhat true but actually u really don't need turbo's or supercharger's to beat a camaro or mustang look at it this way a 95 eclipse gsx awd hits 60mph in 6.4sec a Itr vtec hits 60mph in 6.2sec. and the eclipse has advantage over the Integ by horses and having turbo. the Integ has vtec "variable timing lift electronic control and the weight advantage. so by putting turbo or supercharger's you really should think about putting 4-2-1 headers intake, underdrive crank pulley's,cross drilled rotors, dual friction clutch set and a pcm or ecu upgrade for low and top end performance the ecu retard's the vaf and u should be able to hit over your top speed than whatever it was before. honestly a turbo doesn't really do anything it just help's alittle xtra not that much though. My brother in law has a rx-7 and his brother has a 1992 Plymouth Laser Rs-t awd, and that both of them say the turbo lags sometimes and it does. the one with the laser always complains about how he never hit's 14 on his gauge booster well that's cause it has a psi governer and it only hit's 7 on his guage booster all the way to his 7000rpm redline. suposely his friend told him that if he hits 14 it'll blow the engine. So what i'm trying to say before someone wants to spend that much on turbo's or superchargers get your engine hooked up before installing turbo.

Thats true. You can get 300 + HP out of a 4 cyl all motor, but it is a little harder. A friend of mine has a Civic that he bored, stroked, and put diff cams in it and he has about 270 HP at the wheels. He also has alot of other bolt ons like exhaust, intake, and some more.

Yes, if I were building an enigine from scatch, I would build up the engine first. Get a balanced stroker kit (crank, rods, pistons, cams, the whole works) then work on the valve train. Get a 3 angle valve job, springs, head work. THEN slap on a turbo and turn the boost up. If you built the engine good enough you could run at 10+ psi boost and not have to worry about the engine. Of course you would need injectors, fuel pump, AFC, and some more.

And yes Gonzo, with a turbo kit you can get way more than 200 HP. I have a turbo, exhaust, and a few other mild bolt on's on my Integra and I am thinking the HP is at about 280 @ the wheels, will dyno it soon. First thing I am gonna do to my MP3 is get the FS-ZE cams and Mazda Speed pistons, intake, exhaust, ignition, and maybe a fuel pressure regulator. I hope to get about 180-185 HP at the engine with all that. My goal is 200 HP at the engine, then turbo :)

with you doing that to your car how much is it going to cost before you reach your 200hp or come close to ?

Good question hehe. OK lets try to answer it.

Mazdaspeed piston set - $120 These are higher compression. Only questions are, are they forged? Do they have valve reliefs? I will call and talk to someone before I buy.

FS-ZE Intake Cam - $168 I don't know the specs, but guessing it has higher lift and longer duration than stock.

Mazdaspeed Exhaust Cam - $142 Don't know if this is the same as our stock or what? Will call and ask.

Also Installation will be a lil pricey. Not gonna do it myself cause changing pistons is a pain in the ass. I think the Mazdaspeed pistons may be .050 oversized, meaning the block may have to be bored. I am guessing ~$500 for install of the cams and pistons.

With just those I am hoping to be at ~170 HP at the engine. Basing that on the FS-ZE engine, which has 170 HP. Maybe a lil more cause the Mazdaspeed pistons are higher compression than FS-ZE pistons.

Apex N1 universal muffler - $210 Gonne get this one and get my exhaust custon made from the header back. Prolly cost me about $200 for the piping, so $410 total.

Not gonna use a cat, maybe it won't be too loud. Total exhaust system should add 10-15 HP, hopefully.

MHP Cold Air Intake - ~$330 It is something like that, too lazy to go to the site and look up price hehe. Should add 8-10 HP when used with exhaust and other mods, maybe more :)

So I am hoping all that will give me 180-190 HP at the engine.

I am hoping with a few tweaks and maybe an air fuel controller, I can get 200 HP at the engine.

Total: $1170 for just all the parts and the exhaust work. Probably about $1600 if I get the pistons and cams installed by a shop.

So there you go, for about $1600 I am thinking you can get damn close to 200 HP. I am doing all this as soon as I sell my rims (took em off cause they were too big hehe). Might be about a month, but I will get all this done and get it dyno'd.

sounds good to me and i thought it would be more than 2gz but hey thats well worth it. thanks for the info i'll be browsing around for prices at the shops...'=) :D

I think your $500 allowance for the install of all of those parts is a tad low. To install the Pistons, they will have to remove the entire bottom end of the engine to remove the rod bolts to get the pistons out. This seems to be one hell of a project and at a mechanics rate, that is a lot of cash.

You might be right. I really don't know. I need to get off my ass and start calling and asking questions, and visit my local hop up mechanic hehe.

Also, with the Mazdasteve turbo coming out soon, I am not sure if I wanna go with the pistons. Higher compression + turbo = more chance for detonation.

It is in noway, shape or form, easy to get any 4 Cylinder to run 300hp while staying all motor. If you did, it definately wouldn't be to the wheels and it'll cost an exorbitant amout of money. Let's look at it this way a Spoon Sports Honda S2000 only puts out 271 hp and that's to the wheels. And that's from Spoon Sports. So I'd be willing to say that getting a naturally aspirated, 4 cylinder engine to hit anything over 260 is anything but simple. Unless you're taking out a second mortgage on your house or selling you kidney on the black market. ;)
