Real-world gas mileage in the 3

Sorry if this is stupid.

do u really think i can fight that ticket? everyone has been tellin me that ohio cops/judges are dickheads and that ill loose. then if i loose not only did i waste the gas goin down there, but i also have to pay court costs. its not that far luckily, its only about 120 miles, so two hours away. i could pay the ticket no problem its the points on my lisence that im worried about. my job requires that i have a good driving record cuz i drive all day, plus i already pay $260 a month in insurance, i cant imagine how much its gonna go up once i get 6 points. sorry ta change the topic of this thread but i need info about this so i know what to do b4 i get my lisence suspendid.

Sorry to sound stupid but my father, who I look to for advice alot, would say: If you know your in the right and you have the truth on your side. Go and fight it! Even if you lose you can sleep better at night knowing you tried and you did the right thing. If the story goes as you tell it, you stand a good chance.

Devils advocate: My father (the same smart man) was in Maine passing a tractor-trailer going 65 in a 60. A unmarked cop pulled 12" off his back bumper with the lights on. My dad sped up to get pass the truck and let the cop go by. The cop pulled him over a ticketed him for 75 in a 60 (the speed he reached to pass the truck). He drove 200mi back to Maine to fight it and the judge wouldn't even let him speak. He paid the $200 fine and left, but never regrets that he attempted to fight it. He says he sleeps better knowing the bad karma begets bad karma and the judge will get his as will the cop.

Again sorry to sound stupid, good luck

Tim

Best advice: Find a lawyer local to the area.

I got picked up once on felony charges 600 miles from home. I hired a local lawyer and didn't even have to go back to court. The charges were dismissed, I have no record and the cops even mailed me back my fingerprint card.

It cost me $300 for the lawyer. Best $300 I ever spent.

The best I get in my P5 is 31mpg (hwy rating is 32). I get worse milage on the highway believe it or not, about 27mpg. The EPA ratings are done driving 40-50mph, not a constant 65-75 which most people do on the highway.

I'm currently averaging 27.89 mpg. That's after 11 fillups so far. It's mostly combined highway/city driving. I just got back from a trip from Texas to Alabama where I averaged 29.87 mpg for the trip itself. I have a 5dr 3s model and love driving it in both auto and manumatic mode.

Only drawback to my trip was a rock chip that cracked 1/3 of my windshield. UGH. Must replace windshield on Friday.

Otherwise, the car gets great looks and I think gets pretty good gas mileage. Especially from coming out of a 1998 Mits Montero Sport that averaged 16-17 mpg.

Thanks
James

My Mazda3 just hit 4,000 miles.

I got around 21 MPG on the first few tanks

Then 22+ for the next 10 fill ups

I took the car to the dealer 3 times for a check engine light that kept coming back on

Now I get 19 MPG - last 2 tanks.

I am not happy - I get 16 MPG with a Tahoe, My Full size X-cab 4x4 PU gets 15. (driving the same route)

The chance that Mazda will do anything about poor gas mileage?

Since they will not fix my brake or AC problems I would guess the chance is close to ZERO.

i've been wondering...you drive an AT? dont you think the gas/brake pedals are way too close?!

Oh just slightly! LOL.

I do believe they made them that close for folks with small feet. Seriously though, I have gotten used to them. I don't have large feet (size 9 shoe) so it's not a real inconvenience to me. But it is noticeable.

Thanks for asking!

I just did my first fill - here's my #'s...

KM driven 419
Litres filled 37.9
L/100KM 9.05
or MPG 26.00

From what people have been posting, that seems about right for the 1st fill as you all appeared to get better fuel economy after the break-in period was over?

little over 5000mi now.

driving really conseratively (staying at or around 70mi/hr @ 3000rpm on the highway) i got 30.8 mi/gal.

Man.. my gas mileage = teh suck. I am getting around 22 mpg in a 3i 2.0! I guess it doesn't help that my commute is an 8 mile drive each way and it is all stop and go. :( I only have 850 miles on the car if that means anything.

2.0 liter, ATX, AC + 8 mile stop and go commutes twice a day = teh suck mpg.

got my 3 back from the dealer for some warranty work and he mentioned to me that (i was discussing mpg with him) that in california the 3 would get better mpg if I used 89 oct. something to do with the amount of alcohol in the 87 oct prevents us from getting better mpg. any validity to this? anyone use 89 oct? on 87 oct. i am averaging around 28-29 mpg combined city/fwy (5dr 5spd).

nope. ive been using regular ol' 87.

Ugh. Fill-up #2 yesterday... mileage isn't what I expected, but it is definately due to increasingly harder driving - my fault.

Driven - 462 km or 287 miles
Litres used - 44.6 litres or 11.8 gal
Fuel efficiency - 9.65 L/100km or 24.4 mpg

Still, the fun-factor has been increasing exponentially. I keep reminding myself to let up a bit, 'cuz it's still a new engine... not working too well, I'm afraid! ;)

Thanks for the info! MPG estimates from car makers are getting interesting these days compared to what their cars really get real-world, imho...

I'm shifting below 3000 RPMs most of the time and getting 30 MPG or so in the city, and a whooping 36-37 MPG on the highway at 65 MPH, during a long drive. I think my Mazda 3i sedan rocks! (wrc)

He also has a smaller engine and no VVT.
