Real-world gas mileage in the 3

I'm still getting 22mpg...wtf? I should be getting what Bilzfan is getting... :(

dhl,

I'm in suburban upstate NY where the traffic is not an issue at all. I do have the i model with a manual transmission and I'm shifting below 3000 RPMs. I only have three traffic lights between my home and work.

I have about 4500 miles on the car and have noticed that my mileage is not always this good. If I get on the car I might see MPGs in the low 20's. I just don't drive it that hard because it's the family car. My wife's RSX gets the brunt of my hard driving.

These things combined are probably not the norm for most people driving a Mazda 3, but it does show how good your mileage can be if you attempt to conserve fuel.

For my first few tanks of gas, I am averaging 26.5 mpg in the city.. I have yet to do any serious highway driving.. But I have a 2.3 with a 5 speed and I don't baby it.. (dance)

Not bad, considering I was averaging 21 mpg in the city on a good tank in my Grandprix..

Ok, this has made me really curious so I decided to see for myself.

I've got the 2.3l with a manual tranny.

I pumped in 38l (10.0385gal) and was able to get 510km(316.899mi).
So basically, that's about 31.6mpg. 40% highway, 60% city (half of which is stop & go).

If I got the numbers down right, I guess I'm pretty happy. :)

Third fill - hardest driving yet. That's not bad - I bet it would skyrocket if I suddenly aged 50 years, changed gender, and had some kids who had kids.

9.82 litres / 100 km
24.0 mpg

Okay - filled 'er again. #'s are better:

7.71 litres / 100 km
30.5 MPG

That's it! I'll quit boring every1, now. Hehehe.

mileage

I've got a 2.3 GT with manual and am now on my 4th tank. My last 2 tanks were 32 and 33 mpg with more than half being highway driving.

I just got my speed3.. getting about 23mpg driving it mid revs. i shift at around 4.5k now just because the sound of it revving down to idle from that high makes me smile. A/C always on. After break in I hope it'll go up, I'll drive it nicer after a while too.

EDIT: like 120 mi total :)

I'm anal retentive about monitoring milage and I get 30-34 on the highway (depending on the age of oil & air filters and how fast I'm driving) and again 24-28 mpg in cities, depending on the same factors.

Generally i'll get 29-32 mpg which is due to mostly highway driving during the school year.

For the summer its more 27-29 due to more city driving

I never let my tank really go below 1/4 tank because I find that the car is less responsive, but the most miles ive gone on a full tank of gas without touching E is 320.

my very first tank of gas i got like 280miles, i duno how many gallons i've used up tho (i didn't fill the next tank all they way since there was no shell.. and my trip meter was reset cuz i checked the trans mount)

I have a 2004 Mazda3 Sport Gt and have kept a record of every drop of gas that gone in it... About 65% of the driving I do is highway

combined highway/city
............litres/100k.......MPG (imp)......MPG (us)
year 1........9.12.................30.95........25.77
year 2.......8.8...................32.0,,,,,,,,,, 26.65
year 3........8.65.................32.62........27.16

I average about 20000km (12000 miles) per year
The Mazda brochure for 2004 states 6.7 litres/100k for the M3 sport on the highway. I usually get in the low 7's but have managed to beat 6.7 on a number of occasions. Best has been 6.5 which works out to 43.3 mpg (imp) or 36.1 (us)

I've put three tanks of gas so far in my MS3. First one was 24.65 mpg, second one 25.4 mpg, and last one was 27.3 mpg. I do approximately 70% highway 30% city.
